Any PS2 experts out there? I remember using PS (version unknown to me) on a friends computer, in which I was able to select an area of any shape, I think it was defined by colour/main colour. Literaly just clicking that area under a certain tool mode would select the area exactly, whatever it's shape. I can only describe it as an "automatic lasso" tool.
I've been trying to get a defined colour/shape cut away from the rest of an image but either cannot find the feature (tried manual lasso but its way to fiddly) or the feature came on a later edition.
Any ideas?
Edit
Found it. In CS2 it's "magnetic lasso", not as effective as the "quick selection tool" which came on the next version....

Ian I've been using Audacity for ages first to clean up a load of my vinyl taking out the pops and crackles. and finally digitising it. Try it for capturing any audio passing through your computer it's brilliant. As an audio editor I think it's well worth the money!! Strange how some people dismiss it just because it's FREE. There are a few FREE "effects" Plugins that I've added to the Audacity effects menu. Molot a compressor/limiter...............Limiter No.6 and Tokyo Dawn Labs Plugins.....find them here www.tokyodawn.net/tokyo-dawn-labs/most recent being.... "TDR Nova" (NOVA is a parallel dynamic equalizer. Appearing in the familiar layout of a parametric equalizer, each band also includes a full featured dynamics section allowing the processor to cover an impressively wide range of applications.) I really like TDR Nova. Regards, Alan Thanks Alan. What a great use of it with vinyl. Great for getting pops and clicks out. Never thought of that one. Or even hiss from cassettes. There are quite a few people who use it to record direct onto a computer. I often use an Audio Technica 2020 mic for overdubs which is a budget studio kind of thing but there is also a USB version just for this which is supposed to be very good. Some people use it for film tracks.(Otherwise, I see many like the Blue Yeti) Even a cardioid mic like that gives a small amount of hiss, so Audacity can eliminate it easily with not too much damage to the file. (The less hiss, the less damage so ideally, a good mic is better) I used a couple of very expensive Senn mics a couple of months ago and couldn't believe just how silent they were in action. Cost is sky high though. I've seen describe Audacity as an 'unfriendly' interface, but I've never had problems with it tbh. The only thing that I don't like is when you have lots of files open. It opens separate copies for each file, so every time you edit, you have to close the blank window down after closing the file. That's a bit annoying because if you open a new file, it reboots another copy, leaving the blank version on your computer. It's nice though how you can tag files before saving so that they're easily found on daps with a search.

Many years back I had Steinberg Clean just for the vinyl but if you overdid the clean it altered the overall sound, reining in the clean to counter that left in most of what you wanted removed.
In Audacity when cleaning out hiss pops and scratches I tend to work manually editing out the worst bits, cut and paste is great for replacing badly damaged sections, using the Noise Gate effect can be good if you get it's settings right.
I have the USB version of Audio Technica 2020 very convenient to use just plug it in first then open Audacity and you're recording. I use it every week for my reading contribution to the Talking Book.
I purchased the Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD tried it out and am well pleased with it. Two of my home readers are now using it combined with a Behringer B5 mic and of course Audacity to record on a Lenovo computer. The quality and very low noise level of their recordings means I have very little work to do on their audio files now. You might try "Import"---Audio rather than "open". With "IMPORT" you can select numerous audio files and it opens each in a separate track within the one "Project". You can work on each track individually or globally then export singly or multiple to save them.

Of course ... import them onto one file!!
The recent video has over 600 movie clips with audio to edit plus audio taken on a digital recorder and ambience. It's a 'jungle' of noise!!!!

Ordered the UMC204HD a few days ago. Will compare it to my old EMU0204 and see which one is better for measurements. Also will be buying some silicone ear models for my measurement rig.

Do you use it purely as a DAC Frans? If it's the Behringer, it's a digital mic pre-amp isn't it? I like their stuff. Always built well and good solid performance gear as far as recording gear goes.
That battery operated phantom supply you lent me was very good as well and yet, pretty cheap.

The mic input is said to be very good. Want to use it with a measurement mic and with my headphone measurement rig. That is .. if it performs better than the EMU0204 which is very hard to beat on the ADC side.
Need to get my life going again.
Have to repair an HE6 (done) and have a lot of headphones to measure yet as well as evaluate. Need to see if the HD250 and D600 can be modified easily. Need to open up a Philips to see how to access the swivel part. Need to put some Pinna's on the test rig and evaluate its impact. Have lots of Kameleon filters to calculate and test. A K501 will be visiting me soon for measurements etc. Need to tidy up 'my room' as I can't even walk in it any more. Busy at work etc. Need to get working on my ear issue (at this moment I have it well under control with the Kameleon and daily listening sessions)
Ah well I won't be bored for quite some time I reckon.

Keep going Frans. Keeps the mind active. Hope the dust is starting to settle for you. Actually, I have a lot of clearing to do as well. No room in this house for all of my gear!! I've just sifted through over 600 video clips and made ten short films from Menorca. At least now, we can see it all again. More recently, I've been sticking to the same headphones ... Hd650, DT770 on Kameleons. Portapro, AT MSR7 and the Hifiman that you filtered. Sony nc headphone. After being exclusively on the nc while on holiday, they all sound really great again.

When I first went digital, I became neurotic about copies in case of something corrupting. Did it for years with nothing happening.
In those days, I had a lot on ITunes and sure enough, one day, ITunes went down on both my DAP and the computer. Both currupted and I had no idea why.
Rebooting the DAP went OK, but ITunes when reinstalled would no longer communicate with it and I had about a week of messing around until I had to set the IPod up again as a new machine, which meant reinstalling 160gb of data once ITunes had reloaded everything online.
The ITunes process took ages and then selecting and downloading to the IPod Classic (I had two) also took forever.
The glorious days before broadband faster internet......
It was awful and that one time immediately made me move over to my Fiios following Frans reviewing the first version of the X3. Still one of my favourites along with the X5.
All data is now stored online, on hard drives here and on Syd cards for the daps. So if one goes down, something else will probably work!!
With my video editing, getting the Master down into a playable 'render' can take 12 hours or for long films, a whole day. The computer just sits there, dormant while rendering. Unbelievable when you see the HD film, but you wouldn't believe how long it takes to render such short films!!!

Ipods can be tricky little devils depending on the firmware. I really didn't care for the whole iTunes experience - since iTunes 10, it seems like Apple was more interested in it being a store front - so I put Rockbox on mine. Talk about slow transfers. I did put up with it though, just for the sake of being able to use Musicbee instead. I decided that since I need to move my music, I might as well start from fresh with a clean MB install and much better file organization. That's probably the biggest reason it took so long (~10 hrs.)
Back in the day, I used to do some video editing. Even though we had a (then) top of the line Mac Pro it'd take hours to do the final render for a 20 min. video. Usually would wait until the end of the day and hit the start button on the way out the door.

After iTunes placed two copies of all my Beatles albums and several random others into my music files, then did the same to my backup files on a separate hard drive, I stopped using iTunes. Good thing too. My iPod classic died not long after. Personally I have hated iTunes since day one. In my opinion it's one of the worst software interfaces ever. It is just a storefront designed to send you to the store at every opportunity. Just like my iPhone tries too all to frequently. Gave up on portable audio at the moment. Rather sit and listen to music anyway. Never been much for walking around doing other things with ears buds etc. playing music in the background.

Fiio x5 into the Kameleon and hd650 sounds great with FLAC or DSD Ron. I use that as a stationary unit and the others mostly for portable.

I need to send the Sennator back but was kind of waiting to see if I could mod the D600 and HD250-II. Maybe in the coming weeks I may have some time.
I use the X3 and Kameleon for daily listening the most. Either HD800, HD687 or HD688 depending on my mood / needs.

very odd about my power supply. I'll change it Frans.
You know, the X3 has the easiest to read screen out of all of them. Fiio seem to like mini fonts.
