The HD650 and HD700 will remain in production. No price drop for those headphones. The HD660 is close to the HD650, just a bit more expensive. Probably not an MSRP drop for 600/650, but perhaps a change similar to how HD800 street prices dropped after HD800S launch.

A HD 650 with more sub bass and no other change is a ripoff @ $500 when you can have HD 600/650 for a lot less and HD 700 for a bit less. Pricey compared to a 650. Need to wait for measurements and more extensive comparisons. An argument could be made compared to 600, as one of the issues it has is a significant sub-bass rolloff along with increased sub-bass distortion (making an EQ correction more limited in that area at least ime).

People dumping their HD650 to get on the HD660S hype is to be expected. Let's wait and see what measurements and people think about it. Not all 'improvements' are equally well received.

Did the Sennheiser representative say when these would be available Frans? Seems we yanks were caught by surprise over here.

He said in about 2 weeks time. That was the first production model which was rushed there with a courier directly from Germany. I was one of the first to listen to it it seems. It was sitting there for a few hours already but all attention went to the HD800, HD800S and the Orpheus. At first I thought .. hey the Massdrop version ? ... no this one is really black. Then the representative pointed me to the type number ... HD660S.
Didn't see anything about this anywhere though. It isn't even listed yet at the Sennheiser site.
It's no joke though ... really a HD660S ... no typos. A HD650 with subbass better dynamics.
There was also a concrete (yes grey and surprisingly light) Meze 99 model. No drivers in it so could not be listened to.

Less treble peak vs additional sub bass isn't the same thing. A treble peak can be fatiguing. Less sub bass can't increase your fatigue. And in UK it will be more like 500 quids vs 300 quids. So like a 67% increase.

Who said it was the same thing ? MSRP of the HD650 = € 459.00 MSRP of the HD700 = € 599.00 The fact that you can buy them for much less is how the market works. Besides you don't have to buy them in which case you aren't ripped off nor deprived of anything. An MSRP of around € 500.00 (maybe I heard/remember it wrong) is only a 9% increase in MSRP but about 50% increase compared to the street price of the HD650 on sale. In pounds, dollars or squids it will be the same percentage most likely. Those buying an Utopia or Susvara for instance could be considered as being ripped-off, but proud owners will think otherwise. They will most likely be of the opinion they bought a headphone that was worth it and more. And I wouldn't blame them. Now the HE-1 that's another story ... but then again I think they were right and it is possibly the best headphone around. $ 50.000 is a LOT but then you have something exclusive. Nah ... the worst rip off is the Utopia Tournaire at $ 120,000 as it doesn't sound any better than the $ 4,000 Utopia. The HE-1 does sound much better than the HD800(S).

Some very nice headphones there Frans. I can't even afford the marble on the HE-1. Hopefully someone took a picture of the HD660S. Kind of surprised Sennheiser doesn't have something up on their website. At least a teaser. This could be a very popular headphone for them. If they price it right and do a little more marketing. Some marketing at all might be a start.

I reckon Sennheiser knows this as well. They have seen what the Massdrop did and figure they know how many of these can be sold.
Exact same housing so no costs there. Just another paint job and tuning the driver/pads a bit.

> Some random That's not very friendly, is it? JK. I sadly missed the HD660 completely, it wasn't there from the start. When I was there, there was only the HE-1, HD800 and HD800S

Hi there, i created an account so that i could share my experiences with the hd660s. When i asked they said the impedance is probably 150 ohm, they weren't sure. There was a balanced cable on the headphone, which is why it was louder than my 650 on the new 820 amp. The sales rep told me it will come with single ended and balanced cables. This was a 3.5mm balanced cable wich could for instance be used on a fiio x7 (the cable should be interchangable with the 650 so that could mean that you can now get a cheapo balanced cable for the 650).
I was able to do an A/B comparison with my 650. To me the 660 sounded more dynamic and lively, more treble and more resolution. Unfortunately it was not music i know very well and the ambient noises in the hall were very disturbing. The pads, although indeed a bit thinner than on the 650, are softer and can therefore be compressed more on the head, which to me felt like the clamping force was less than on a 650. The design has also been improved, it looks a little more modern. What really annoyed me though is the way they printed sennheiser on the headband, it looked really cheap...
They also told me that the msrp of 499 will be the price and that these headphones will only be available at speciality hifi shops which can give you some proper advice and pairing amps and dacs instead of just the cheapest price available.
