yeah, ive seen it on motor vehicle sales on a large scale. recently ive been looking at vw t4 and t5 campers. ive seen them advertised at £8-10k when i think to myself "thats thirty grands worth, if genuine". they get removed very quickly by ebay, but a few days later they're back , same pictures just different seller. i suppose they rely on people putting down a deposit then they are gone.
what can ebay realistically do to stop it? i would not have a clue!

Syd, is your new cable microphonic at all? I don't think I would be able to tell you for sure, sounds daft but I'm not sure what microphonic means with headphone cables. Is it electronic-like additions when touching the cables or is it mechanical noise, like if I lift the cable up and tap it with my finger I can hear it as I would if I tap the actual headphone cups. I have a Toxic Cables cable on my HE-6 (just to get a shorter cable alternative to the standard cable, as usual I don't hear any difference from sound quality point of view.) I played music with HE-6 just now and the Toxic was similar, could hear the tapping but nothing else added. If you can describe the sound you mean I'm happy to try to give a better answer. Best would be if Frans' cable comes quickly you can get his opinion as I know he refers to it in cables, until then I had never thought of it. When I'm listening to music with phones I'm sitting by myself and not moving around so probably not doig much to induce it. Finally, if Frans cable is going to take a while I'm happy to send my cable over for you to try.

It usually refers to a mechanical rubbing sound that you hear in the headphone when the cable rubs against just about anything. I had a pair of IEM's where it was so bad I couldn't listen to them unless I was asleep, or in a coma. Not sure if that answered the question. I've never heard a cable that has electrical problems except perhaps RFI issues. Over to you Frans.
As to eBay. I have no data to back this up, but it does seem to be more of a problem with scammers lately than in the past. I've been lucky. But I always buy from sellers with lots of good ratings and use PayPal for extra insurance. Particularly when buying tubes.

Yup exactly that.
A cable 'transmits' mechanical noises. These noises irritate some people more than others. I hate it when it is louder than softer passages in music.
Mostly stiff cables or cloth covered cables do this.
How much noise is transmitted via mechanical conduction (the electric signal is not affected at all) thus depends on the cable and above all how it is connected to the chassis/cups and how much of that is 'mechanically conducted' to the baffle that holds the driver. The more 'mechanical' sounds are 'coupled' into the area where the ear is the louder the noises are.
Those that wear glasses may also be annoyed by loss of bass or 'squeeky' sounds when moving the headphones or glasses a bit. With some pads this is really bad with others not so much.
Reading that those cables are made of stiff wire I will probably remove the connectors and solder them on a thin and supple hedphone wire salvaged from a cheap headphone. The connectors alone are worth the price I paid for it. The same price as when bought in China but don't have to wait for it a month or so.
All I need is the connectors and an old cable (I believe I have an old Sennheiser HD600 cable which would be perfect for this)
Maybe I will do some comparative measurements with my HD800 first. I fear, however, that plugging and unplugging the cable in the headphone and thereby inadvertently slightly moving the headphone on the rig will cause bigger differences than any cable could make.

It's good to get microphonic defined for sure. I normally use headphones only for sitting at my desk browsing on the PC, or relaxing doing nothing but listen more seriously so not much movement takes place<G>.
It doesn't bother me with this cable but it has been more obvious on some of my other phones that others have said are unacceptable so I'm not one to judge for others who are more 'exacting?' than me.
One thing I have to report is that the two plugs are not a rock solid fit, unlike the originals which are very tight. I wouldn't have noticed until I checked everything from a more critical point of view. Possibly the cheaper plugs-only offerings will be the same?
What I have done as an experiment is to put some PTFE tape into the 'crack' and pulled it tight, it has cured any movement and isn't noticeable, though from what people say about the paint (as I suffered on the 650 too), we have to be prepared for a less than pristine 800 after a short time anyway.

I found on my Beyer DT770 headphones that the cable is as dead as a Dodo but the cable somehow connected to the cups transmitted noises that bugged the crap out of me My answer was to tie a couple of cable ties to the cable and route along the headband, this stopped the cable catching on my clothing and transmitting the noise, simple cheap effective cure

received my 800's today (thanks Nico). have already carried out my first mod. initially i found them really comfortable, but after a short time i noticed the headband sticking into my head slightly. this is probably down to my noggin being an odd shape, as i have not read anyone else complaining of this. basically the removable headband padding has a plastic piece at either end. this plastic piece was sticking into my head at both sides, but only at the front. luckily i had a spare dt770 headband pad in a draw, so i've replaced the clip on stock pad for this. it dont look too great, but i cannot see it so dont care.
looking at the stock band there is very little padding.

Did you get the new cable yet Frans? I have been trying to find good plugs though I'm happy with my PTFE-modded cable I just like nice stuff. I've come across this goo.gl/qjhqbm and I'm wondering if they are genuine Sennheiser and if that is the price for a pair or each. I'm going to email them tonight. If it's per pair I'll get them if not I might get Furutech for the bit extra cost. I don't trust any of the other makers to be as tight a fit as Senn.

Are you a psychic ?
The cable arrived today. Looks nicely made. Will probably just replace the 3.5mm plug and maybe put some silicone sleeve around the wire. Maybe this weekend or so.
GBP 62.- for 2 connectors is quite steep. They will probably have a better fit. Haven't checked the connectors yet nor the cable.

I inquired with Dekoni (http://dekoniaudio.com/) last night regarding HD800 earpads. Their response was: "We should have it within a few weeks." No idea how they will change the sound, but I will likely give them a try.
