IMO, the felt mods were pretty noticeable. They did flatten the bass hump nicely. I only had one thickness of felt (1mm same as Solderdude's original mod), so I can say how different materials would sound. I would've gone for the AKG material, but it doesn't seem available in Canada and shipping from the US is absurdly expensive.
Never did get around to building the passive filter.
IMO however, I'm also happy with the stock sound.

The akg mod doesn't look that crazy priced from the US (https://m.thomannmusic.com/akg_foam_net_pad_piece_k_240.htm) so I could give it a before and after test. What type of double sided tape do you use? I'm assuming we just need to use something not too strong that keeps it in place so it can be removed in the future without sticking to the magnets.

Even though we share a common border, shipping from the US to Canada is ridiculously expensive. If I can buy something like this and have it shipped from China for free, why does it cost $25 to ship from US? Now that I'm done ranting… I just used some leftover tape I had from those window film kits you put up in the Winter. IIRC, Frans used carpet tape. I was thinking maybe blutack might work too. Put a small bead around the magnet and then mash the felt into it. The problem I had with the tape I used is that the felt just didn't stick well to it. I'd think the blutack would kind of mat up into the felt fibres and stick better?

I received the AKG K240 foam discs from Full Compass last week. I've swapped my 58X mod to use them (fabric side facing magnet) and am quite pleased. I will say that the paper tea bags I used before are, I think, a very good substitute. I'm sure there's some measurable difference between them, but to my ear it sounds the same as the K240 foams.
I don't have an HD650 on hand to compare directly, but I think I like modded 58X more than stock 650/6XX. And I still prefer stock HD 600 above all.

solderdudeI was reading your measurements on the new Senn earpads. Did you notice any meaningful change in comfort? I find my ears are a little cramped in the stock 58x earpads and was wondering if the different cross section would open up the interior a bit more

They work for HD58X but the 5.5kHz peak becomes a bit higher.

I'll take that to mean, "don't rush out and buy a pair. probably won't feel much different" As a side note… I got a really good deal on an open box A2C. Now those are comfy!

Yes, they certainly are. The drop version also is cheap (in the US at least)

Its probably been asked before, but has anybody found a 3rd party earpad that doesn't change the sound? My stock pads are getting pretty flattened (as well as my 400i pads literally falling apart) and I would consider an aftermarket option if it is comfier and sound the same as stock. solderdude Speaking of stock pads, do you know if the older ones are still available?

I can't find older pads other than on my original HD58X. Have tried the new pads on the HD58X and they are fine.
