Since I've purchased a new hybrid amp my 2 Little Bear P1s are probably going to be collecting dust. I was wondering if it would be possible to convert one to full solid state. I know Schiit has those SS "tubes". Could something similar be done for the P1? Would it even be worth the time or money to even try?
Cheers

The LISST tubes won't work in the P1.

OK. Is there any other DIY way to accomplish the same(ish) thing?
On a semi-related topic… what would be the best way to defeat/bypass (non-destructive) that death ray LED Schiit uses for a power light? Just wrap in electrical tape?

P1: I would just put in a cheap tube and use it that way. Not easy to make a SS replacement for the tube due to it's construction.
Vali: Personally I would open up the cabinet. Interrupt one of the legs of the LED and put a small potmeter in series (50k or so) and adjust the brightness. Or ... replace R5 with a value 10x that of the current value for starters

I use these on my Schiit LED’s. They also make a total black version. Work great. No residue. LightDims

Thanks ronzo. I've had a look at those LightDims, just haven't bothered buying a pack yet - I do have enough things to use them on. From the pics I've seen (haven't got the amp yet) it look like the LED also tend to light the inside of the case too. Since this amp will be going in my bedroom, I'd be tempted to remove the LED entirely - seriously, shouldn't the glowing tube be enough of an indication the power is on.
I do like the pot. idea. Would a trimmer pot be suitable? Possibly one scavenged from a soon to be unused P1 amp…

yes, a small trimmerpot will do fine. The current is quite low and you will end up with less than 1mA most likely. Just connect the center connection and 1 of the outer connections. Leave 1 outer connection open (unused)
