A new version of Foobar was recently released with the following changes/bug fixes:
V. 1.2.4
- ReplayGain scanner improvements: * Improved speed. * No longer ignores up to 100ms of last audio data.
- Faster SSE-optimized codepaths for various sample type conversions; most notably more efficient handling of 24-bit content.
- Option to verify integrity of played files and report errors immediately (however it does not check whole-file checksums).
- Fixed status bar glitch with misplaced volume icon.
Also a new version of Maxim Anisiutkin's ASIO Proxy (0.6.1) is available and introduces realtime PCM to DSD conversion of 48KHz family sample rates as well as for those from the 44.1KHz but higher than the fundamental. With this version all currently vailable PCM sample rate files can be converted either to DSD64 or DSD128. Files with 44.1, 88.2, 176.4 or 352.8KHz sampling rate will be converted to 2.28GHz (DSD64) or 5.64GHz(DSD128). Files with 48, 96, 192 or 384KHz sampling rate will be converted to 3.07GHz (DSD64) or 6.14GHz(DSD128). Maxim is currently investigating DSD->DSD upsampling within the DSD domain in order to avid intermediary conversions to PCM. The goal is to achieve up to 24.576 (DSD512, 48KHz) output from any DSD file but could probably benefit PCM sources as well. At the moment this kind upsampling is only achievable with Signalyst's HQPlayer (119€+Tax) with the drawback of requiring a very powerful CPU in the computer (ie better than latest generation Core i5 @ 2.5GHz).

A new SACD plugin v. 0.6.3 has been released. It allows reproduction of DSD256 and DSD512 files. If anyone has compatible hardware, there is a free (and legal) DSD256 file available here: www.dropbox.com/sh/dk3c8oufct6eqi9/FgOQYBOAGIIt needs a little tweaking in order to be played and I'll post the instructions should anyone want to test it. Also fresh is APE plugin 2.1.7: -"verifying file integrity no longer disables postprocessing (DTS & HDCD)"- And last, Foobar 1.2.5 beta 3: - Converter: fixed writing of WAV files with odd byte counts (eg. 24-bit mono). - Improved handling of various malformed WAV files. - Converter: fixed writing of file types that foobar2000 cannot tag. - Fixed “verify integrity of played files” option disabling HDCD & DTS decoder components. - It's a feature of individual decoder components; third party decoder components such as Monkey's Audio decoder must be updated separately. - “Add Folder” now skips over hidden files & subfolders. - AIFF file format tagging support. - Added authenticode signatures to foobar2000 binaries. - Added WAV & AIFF attached picture handling (beta 2). - Added attached picture transfer option in Converter (beta 2). - More AIFF tagging bugs have been fixed (beta 3)

Thanks Javier. Just read all of your suggestions and missed a couple of settings. Initial impressions are good. Seems to have cleaned up the sound. Expectation bias? Perhaps. But, thanks from this "Dummie"

Maxim Has released a new 0.6.2 version of his ASIO Proxy, it should fix a bug with the higher DSD sampling rates introduced in SACD plugins 0.6.3 and 0.6.4. Also it introduces PCM to DSD256 and DSD512 format conversion/upsampling (before it topped at DSD128). It can be found here: sourceforge.net/projects/sacddecoder/files/foo_dsd_asio/

V. 0.6.3 of the ASIO Proxy just released, now everything works fine with the exception of PCM to DSD512 upsampling which needs a rather powerful CPU (not Maxim's fault) to work smoothly.
Thanks Max, you really are a star!

New Foobar 1.2.6 beta 1 vailable, nothing really interesting there unless there is a need for embedded pics. I've installed a very nice looking spectrum plugin called foo_musical_spectrum and I'd like to recommend it to those who want to add a touch of colour to their Foobar's look. It can be downloaded here: www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=97404&st=0&p=814844entry814844It is very configurable and can be set up go down to 17Hz instead of the default spectrum's 50Hz and over 20KHz on the upper end. This is how it looks: And its set up screen: Integrated in the player: In case someone is interested in tweaking sound (ie equalizing) to match particular cans/speakers to taste or specific music type, there is a much better graphic EQ than the standard one available here: www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_dsp_xgeqFeatures: - 31 bands (1/3rd octave width) - boost/cut range of +-12 dB in .1 dB steps - master gain - minimum phase filters to eliminate pre-echo - smooth frequency response - import/export functionality - mono and stereo mode Good performance though not as good or as slick as the ones you can get in VST format like this one:

Thanks Dicky, it is a pretty basic config compared to some I've seen but it is all I need.
Displaying covert art is easy, you can use Foobar's quick setup (File->Preferences->Display->Default User Interface->Theme Management) and select Visualization+Covert Art+Tabs or you can do it manually by enabling layout editing mode (there is a check box for it under "Theme Management"). For it to work you need to have the cover pic inside the same folder as the music files and make sure they are named with any of the names included in File->Preferences->Display->Album art or add the entry/ies you want to use. You can make Foobar show front, back, artist or disk pics but not simultaneously unless you add more than one "cover" box field.
If you want me to give you a hand setting up your Foobar send me a PM.

Anyone fancy adding some more eye candy to Foobar? How about integrating some analogue VU-meters? Have a look at what is available here (in Russian, Chrome or translator required): foobar2000.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5012Some examples: How it looks integrated (quick unoptimized setup)

Some of those look really good. Are they installed in the same way as the equalizer a few posts above?
