still dont really understand why you dont upsample to DSD512, is there a trade off?

not really, technically it is indeed better but once you reach DSD256 law of dimishing returns applies. DSD512 means heavier CPU use thus more power burnt for little benefit though if your PC can handle it there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Javier, is it normal , when upscaling , to have to raise the vol pot a bit?

I don't think I notice any volumen decresase when upsampling to DSD though as it takes a couple of seconds to change settings it is hard to tell accurately. I don't think there should be any difference but if you are listening to true DSD sources, specially tracks sourced from SACD discs then there can be a -3 or even -6dB lower level.

i cant seem to get foobar to play in exclusive mode on windows 10, anyone else had this? Works fine for me in a quick test (W10 x64 + iDSD micro), though I use ASIO instead of WASAPI. Are you up to date in Foobar and plugins versions? and DAC driver?

Are you using ASIO or WASAPI exclusive (aka Event)? In any case, if you are not using DSD related stuff (DSD material or upconverting PCM to DSD) it should be very straight forward. How do you have Playback->Output configured?

How do you have Playback->Output configured? i have been so used to just using ASIO that i overlooked WASAPI Javier. the latter seems to be working just fine
