Interesting. A company famed for electrostatic speakers, offers a planar magnetic headphone with an OPPOulent design. Appears to have special ergonomic ear cushions - for those that have had their lobes surgically removed. Even before release, they're being discounted. 100 pounds cheaper at: www.audiosanctuary.co.uk/quad-era-1-headphones.html

I did not know that Quad makes headphones. I have pair of Quad 12L loudpseakers powered with tube amplifier. OK sounding. A bit warmer side.

Frans any plans to review those HP? I have not seen single measurement and not really honest reviews.

I have no acces to them.... alas. The headphone dealer I frequent for measurements has no relation with Quad either. Too expensive too buy and sell onwards again. It seems that it has a 10dB dip around 4kHz and is audible light on the bass (measures flat like most planars in the bass) I suspect it to be closer to an Audeze in sound than a HIFIMAN. www.quad-hifi.co.uk/upload/files/HFN%20Aug%20Quad%20ERA-1%20Reprint%20LOW%2080710.pdf

Thank you. I did not see that document. I was using phone so it was quite difficult to find anything. Yeah kinda expensive... Its quite risky to buy and if not like. Can't even try them anywhere. Only couple stores sell them in Finland and they are too far away.

I wonder how the two sets of pads would measure in comparison to one another. And presumably the review and single set of measurements provided were done with the factory-fitted velour / pleather hybrids.
Not clear though and seems odd that when two sets of pads are supplied only a single set of measurements is provided and the review focuses more on pad comfort. May be that Quad see the hybrids as the prime option but conversely most owners (and a couple of reviewers) feel the fenestrated leather pads (which are noticeably deeper and angled rather than flat) greatly improve the ERA-1.
