I’ve just got my mits on one of these.
Mixed feelings. Beautiful looking. Gorgeous sounding. But ........... the interface........ slow as hell.
There’s a delay from pressing to reaction. It can be annoying.
It works on Android but you can switch Android off and go into music mode. I think that helps. Not had it too long to be sure.
Scanning files is a pita. I have two full 128Gb cards and it takes a long time to get through. Once done though, everything is is in the right place.
Once you suss out the interface the sound is, (I think) slightly better than my X5 mk 1. In fact the noise floor seems better and there’s a good, transparent sound with plenty of oomph to drive my Beyerdynamic dt1990 very loud with no perceived distortion.
It has bluetooth, wifi, a selection of low pass filters that are built in to the chip (to do with how top rolls away) and a balanced turbo mode to supply a little more power to the headphone if you connect to the balanced output, which is a 2.5mm plug.
So it’s a mixed bag for me. The interface is it’s Achilles heal but being able to stream from the internet as well as play from two big sd cards with such a good sound is great. If you setit i to Music Mode only and not Android mode, it seems a lot better.
It also has digital out for my Ifi amp which is fantastic. The sound is just delicious. Also, I think the imaging is really good; especially on the dt1990.
The reason I mention this player is that it has been out a while now and has the best sound of all my DAPs. I still love the X5 and the X3 but the sound on this is quite special. I’d say in a higher price level than what it’s currently going for.
On Amazon, it’s £209 which for the sound is a great buy. But for the interface ........
So, quite mixed. Still, at that price, it’s definitely a high end sounding player. It contains a lot of delicacy in the sound that you rarely hear; especially from mp3. On FLAC .... detail galore.
