When I removed the pads to wash them, I saw that the foam ring of the AKG k701 crumbled or disintegrated into dust or tar like material so I removed them. I saw in your measurements that the foam ring had negligible effects. What could I do to replace them? Should I replace them? Should I just use toilet paper? I am planning to buy dekoni hybrid pads or protein pads cause I want more bass and lower the highs. I also have Meze audio 99 classics and Philips fidelio x1 both of which I find to have great bass compared to my akg k701. Can you recommend as to what should I do. Thanks

The foam ring can be ordered at Thomann www.thomann.de/nl/akg_foam_net_piece_k_701.htmShipping will be more expensive than the ring. It is very thin and acoustically transparent so it is probably only there to ensure some distance perhaps. I do not have Dekoni pads alas so cannot say what the effect will be. I believe Dekoni has measurements of some of their pads which could be helpful. I doubt highs will be damped with the pads, they might be relatively lower when bass is increased. To lower the treble with K701 you can experiment with toilet paper, kitchen wipes, felt, EQ or a filter.

So the foam rings dont do much to the sound? I can leave them without? Shipping is prohibitive cause I come from the Philippines. I'll try to order brainwavz pads sheepskin, suede and pu leather so i can try them. Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I have been looking at your site and comparing headphones. It is great that you take the time to do measurements. Helps us who can't listen before we buy.

If you want I could order them along when ordering parts at Thomann. I can forward them in an envelope. 2 discs + shipping would be E 5 in total. One can assume they are in there for a reason.
