Hmm... seems like it is picking up hum. What happens if you place it elsewehere ?

Hmm... seems like it is picking up hum. What happens if you place it elsewehere ? No matter where I put the amp, I get the hum. As soon as the foil touches, the hum is 100% gone. Even with no other wires connected. I’m convinced that it is electrical hum . Not RF or airborne hum. The foil does not really have to cover the tubes as long as the foil touches them anywhere it works as well. If it helps troubleshoot, no matter what volume level the knob is at, the hum is the same loudness. It does not change.

Seems like the tubes are picking up the hum. When you use electrical wire instead of alu foil.. same effect ?

A grounded mesh should indeed solve this. Looks like the huge tubes worked as an antenna for picking up mains hum.

I don't think anything is wrong with your Ember. It just was never designed for these tubes.
