Not that different in concept... but packaging and style... sure. In theory tho... it's terrible. But probably worse in practice. ;-)
Back-2-Back force cancelling woofer concept has been around for years and years. The small enclosure volume will require some hefty power to cheat physics and produce much below 100hz. And the horns splashing nasty peaks around the room... yup... been there, cringed at it.
They bill it as: "The world’s first Triphonic speaker". Are they Tri-ing to pretend 3-way speakers never existed until now? Also not a single spec of specifications to be found. Not even a basic frequency response chart or distortion measurements. Marketing is the only spec they seem to prefer.
Might appeal to those who want a fancy, over-priced 'lifestyle' bluetooth-type speaker with a smartphone app. For those who enjoy music reproduced semi-accurately, there's many better options.

Yeh I remember Linn Isobarik speakers that used back to back woofers and I agree they sounded awfull just full of fat flabby bass. The Syng sounds good on paper and I like the inovative design of no box as such, but what they sound like in the flesh I don't suppose I will ever find out @ an expensive $1,800 each. They bill it as: "The world’s first Triphonic speaker". Are they Tri-ing to pretend 3-way speakers never existed until now? Also not a single spec of specifications to be found. I managed to find out from a different web site some specs? 30Hz to 20Khz + - 3db, Two class D poweramps on board with no power ratings, and I presume one amp would drive the woofers while the other the horns? only guesswork. Also it has a built in DSP that supposedly detects wall boundaries other speakers etc and automatically adjust to get the best sound?
Typical of somebody who worked for Apple - all hype but in reality, like you said there are better options.
