I am saving up for a new stereo receiver, but was hoping for ideas. I have an Onkyo AV receiver that works well, but am looking to upgrade to something more music oriented.
I will be using it for vinyl and to run my Hidzis Ap80 into.
Here is one of the problems. Years ago I was gifted a set of big audiophile speakers by a friends dad. He worked as an engineer and had their acoustic engineer make them for him, so they aren't rated. They are 3 way and have 12" woofers with a built in crossover knob. So I don't really know how big of an amp I need.
Right now I am aiming for around $500.00 but would consider more.
I have always loved the vintage 70s amps, since that is what my dad has, or will I get better sound quality from something newer?

If anyone is curious, I bought an old Scott 370R for $200. I read they have great phono stage, and I am surprised how much better my records sound.
If I could solder worth a damn I'd re-cap it but I'm really lousy and don't want to wreck it since it works pretty good. So unless something breaks, I'll probably just leave it.

These were built to last.
As long as the controls do not 'scratch' and the switches and lamps are all O.K. it'll keep on going for quite a few years.
