Yes, I know what you mean as far as cost goes. At that level though, I'd be inclined to hold on to them. For me, I kind of draw a line around £300 for a headphone. After that, I feel that differences become much smaller.
What is surprising is that there are quite a few Senn HD800 owners who don't particularly care for its treble response. I kind of empathise with them since I seem to be a bit more sensitive to a toppy headphone than I am to a bassy one.
I can accept a strong bass more easily than a strong treble. I do like the d2000 quite a lot though but I think the quite strong top is kind of matched by its bass which is tremendous.
I like the Senn HD600, Beyer Dt990, fostex t40/50 and for lighter stuff, the akg K601. The akg has most top followed probably by the Beyer which also matches the top with its bass, like the Denon.
However, once £300 gets close, I start to feel that they're beginning to become too expensive. I must admit though, I could be tempted by an expensive ortho but I'd want the seller to allow me to sit with them for a week first!
