The drawing of the PCB has changed with the last iterations ideas so is going to look different in any case.
By the time it becomes a real product there will be detailed descriptions (I assume)

i did realise the rcas would be on the dac, i just cant see where they are wired to on the board diagram in your 1st post. i imagine the 20- pin connect goes on "jp2"? just not sure on the rcas Yep, you're right JP2 is the DAC's 20pin header. The RCAs would have been the 4 hexagon's with black dots inside on the oppoosite side of the board. Also, Frans is correct about the final board looking different. Due to the new DAC IC we have chosen and some new ideas the layout will change quite a bit. Input connector will be exactly the same 20pin header but we are cosnidering multiple outut options: pads/headers for external I/V, onboard I/V but unbuffered balanced out headers and finally regular single ended RCAs. It'll be up to the builder to decide what to populate and use.

Javier, if you do start to sell pre-built boards, i will be interested for sure. if (again)this is a possibility, could they be available before xmas?
the reason i ask is i was planning to buy one of the luckit wave io boards , that you suggested on another thread. but if this is available (pre-built) before xmas, it would make sense for me to wait, save my money and buy one of these instead. i could then sell my current dac and hiface2 and go usb only.

Simon, I would have suggested the Combo384 from Amanero instead of the WaveIO but it doesn't have SPDIF output so it cannot be used with your current DAC.
For our DAC the Combo is a must, it could be made to work with other USB adapters but all I2C functionality will be lost and it is very important, without it the DAC always uses the pre programmed register values. The Combo can be purchased for 39€ through DIYAudio group buys (they are starting the 7th now) and as it is shipped from Italy there are no custom duties. It can also be bought from the Amanero website but at full price, ie 79€.
I hope we can get the board ready before Xmas but as it is a team job and it is being designed in spare hours it is difficult to predict when it'll be finished.

(maybe a few quid left over!?)

Hi Javier Do you have any ballpark figure as to how much the fully assembled (with combo) DAC that you are building, would cost? in USD that is? Some ballpark figure? Will it have SPDIF to connect to my Asus STX card? Any ball park date when you expect to start shipping it? Thank You so much! Aakshey

Will it work with SPDIF to USB adaptors like Fiio D3? Will that degrade performance a lot? I just saw that SPDIF isn't supported.

Sorry but it won't have SPDIF input, it'll be a 100% USB DAC. It will REQUIRE the Amanero Combo384 in order to work properly (not included). This DAC is not complementary to your Asus sound card but rather a replacement for it.
No idea about time or cost yet. We have done some rough estimates for parts cost but nothing definitive yet, the PCB cost will depend on how many people want it (the more the cheaper). The casing and connectors will depend very much on each builder's taste and budget.

So if I want to use my Asus sound card for Dolby effects etc, how do I make the two work together?
Will this DAC work with Fiio D3 to connect to my asus card?
Is it likely to be released in 3-4 months or so or will it take longer?
Thank You
Aakshey

No way of making it work together with any other soundcard. It is a standalone DAC and doesn't need anything else, just the Combo384 and the DAC and that is it. If you don't need DSD nor higher than 24/192 PCM you should stay with Xonar STX. I have a Xonar ST and it is an amazing soundcard.

Hi Javier, I was lurking around and found this thread: do you have any updates on this? Also you got a PM.

Is this project still ongoing?
Are boards available?

Yep, the project was abandoned a long time ago. Though thhere is something very similar available in the market, the Ifi DSD micro and nano.

Just checked and the iFi Nano iDSD DAC is available (in US) for around $175. If its anywhere close in performance to the Ifi DSD micro this would be a very good value. If you're looking for something DIY, I believe the the DIYINHK DACs are a pretty good option. The following: www.diyinhk.com/shop/audio-kits/114-usb-dsd-dxd-384khz-dac-with-bit-perfect-volume-control-and-spdif-inputxmoses9018k2m.html#/dac_option-xmos_384k_isolated_dac_and_led_pcbis intriguing to me. The kit is $105 but then you need three PS and transformers ($125-150). Probably $300 before you get through excluding the enclosure. If I get bored this winter I may try one of the DIYINHK ES9018K2M DACs so I can compare it to the Buffalo IIISE. Generally I don't believe there is much difference in DACs and it would be interesting to check out the differences in these two. I expect they sound very much alike.
