Hi Mike. Welcome to the forum. I do like Dave. He's a good old sort. Always puts himself down but a really nice guy. Are you a 'poshie' right by the golf course? Errington Park Estate? We don't mind you being here at all. We're small but perfectly formed ...... Don't know whether Mike now lives just off the 'poshie' golf course but his roots are in Kimberworth IIRC . Dave.

Trouble is, quote and edit are too close to each other if you are admin. It's this new look - it drives me nuts!!!

Hello all, I am Thunderhead, (rmouser on Head-Fi). My profession is digital (computer user network support) and my passion is analog. I got my FCC radiotelephone license in the late 7os and began my electronics career in TV broadcast. I moved on from there to computer manufacturing, where I met my wife of 33 years now. I actually watched the birth of PCs from the 8 bit pre-286 Intel to Pentiums. My phone inventory ranges AKG 702, 240 Sextett, Alessandro MS-1, Grado SR225i, RS2i and a highly modified SR80 (see picture below). My amp inventory: LittleDot MKIII, Pimeta v1, Project Sunrise 2 (kit serial number K0035), Project Starlight (kit number K0001--wrote a review in Head-Fi) and a custom ClassA solid state with OPA637 with BUF64 outputs, MusicStreamer II I like to EQ (31 band per channel) My other hobby is smoking meats, nuts, cheese and fish. I have four different kinds of smokers.

Hi Thunderhead. I had noticed you lurking here. I'm Ian and am admin here along with Solderdude and Javier on this forum.
The idea is to create an info site that is left untouched, while we all discuss it and prattle on here. The three of us make a varied team. I'm a musician, Solderdude is an electrical whizz kid and Javier is more computer/digital based. But we all primarily love music.
Solderdude designed the Sunrise/Horizon series of amps and indeed, I use the Horizon a great deal. The Ember is soon to appear here in the UK so we all look forward to that.
I'm sure Solderdude will get back to you regarding your amp, since he designed that too.

Welcome Thunderhead,
I will come back on the designs in the appropriate threads.
How did you set the BUF634 (I assume you used that one) into class-A, by adding a current source or resistor to the negative or positive rail ?

Forgot to reply about EQ. I use an Applied Research and Technology EQ355 31 band per channel. One reason is for older recordings prior to the advent of DBX and Dolby noise reduction. There is that tape hiss at 6Khz that you don't hear in the car radio. With modern headphones and amps it is very obvious. Cutting the 6.3k band drops the hiss without affecting (much) the adjacent 5K and 8K bands.
It's also interesting to boost frequencies to hear what frequency corresponds to what instrument, voice, etc.
Lastly, I tune for the sounds I want. To hear what the engineers intended would require the headphones and amps that they use, so it all seems relative to me.

Yes, it is all relative, Ron. (and a touch of preference) It's just that I always return to my modded T40/T50 and they are pretty flat so many other headphones, although pleasant sound wrong to me now. So I was thinking about eq'ing for a flatter response.

Welcome Thunderhead, I will come back on the designs in the appropriate threads. How did you set the BUF634 (I assume you used that one) into class-A, by adding a current source or resistor to the negative or positive rail ? Hi Frans, I used a resistor from the output to the negative rail. Then today at work I was thinking that if it were indeed running class A the BUF634 would be warm. Which leads to a question. The outputs on the Sunrise are warm/hot. To my knowledge, there is an output capacitor there? If the BUF634 is running class A wouldn't the current fry the phones as there is no output cap? So, somehow, it is not running in A? Should we take this to another thread?

A new thread about this class-A topology is created HERE. It's a bit on the technical side though

Okay, I'm Ludo from Belgium and so I'm able to write a language here only two others can read I'm here because I recently got interested in headphones and suddenly things went fast. I have a Superlux HD681-B with Frans' filter in it and I love it ! Thus I started searching for Frans and through the danish forum found his E-mail, he gave this link and here I am. Stuff I immediately liked here was the fact you start off as a valued member Nice touch. Job: Truckdriver national Hobby: Playing bassguitar in a metalband (shadesofgrey.be) and my pimped PT Cruiser. Married for 20 years to a beautiful woman who gave me a daughter (15) and a son (12). How did I suddenly get into headphones ? We 've done DIY recordings with the band and I was the one doing all the editing, mainly cause I'm a controll freak. This editing was done for 90% in my truck during waiting periods. So I needed a decent pair of headphones and bought myself a (highly recommended for the task) Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80. Next I ordered a Superlux HD681-B cause I wanted to know how this headphone performed, since it is much written about on basgitaarforum.nl, a bassguitar forum I visit since 8 years. After that one I also bought a Somic MH489 which I truly love. I allready had two older pairs in the house being a Pioneer SE650 and a Sony MDR CD570. Okay, that's enough for here and I also did you guys the pleasure of using a nice avatar
