Hoping someone can help here.
I've begun to rip my music to flac using EAC in preparation for going the NAS/Streamer route. I've noticed that music which EAC can find on the database is tagged and shows correctly in Foobar. However, on some CD's which can't be found on the database, I have manually changed the file name to the appropriate song title, and although the title appears in the folder, when I play it with Foobar (or any other media player) it shows as "Unknown". I also notice the ones which EAC can find and tag have the file-size attached but the ones I have manually tagged have no file size.
Where am I going wrong when manually tagging?

a tag is a separate piece of data inside the file, sortof an addition to the audio part and can contain pictures and loads of data as well as lyrics and extra info e.t.c. A tagged file will thus be bigger in size than a non-tagged one. When a tag is not present some players simply display the filename. Other programs may not do that and might only read the tag or filename. I use MP3tag (freeware), it can also tag FLAC files and uses Amazon, discogs, freedb, MusicBrainz for finding album data.

Hi Frans, EAC uses Freedb as well.
OK, so if I understand you correctly, it's not that I've done anything wrong, just that some players don't read manually added tags?

changing a filename isn't a tag... at least I think that's what you did or did you fill in this info somewhere else before the ripping process ? Tags exist in various 'formats'. Not all players support all the tag formats. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ID3I do not use EAC so don't know how it exactly tags maybe setup guides can help you there. blowfish.be/eac/Setup/setup4.html

Thanks a million Frans, I d/l the mp3 tagger you suggested and have tagged my albums which wouldn't display properly. Cracking little program, I like the way it has lots of choices of databases including amazon! Absolutely excellent, worked first time, Cheers P.S. - back to work ripping . . . and ripping . . and ripping . . .

It can also rename files and create tags from filenames and vice versa.
Ripping is indeed a long process...
