will a pc boot up and appear to run ok with a corrupted bios install? ignore this question. i think everything is now ok although the bios upgrade did not quite go as planned. things must now be ok as my pc boots in 45 seconds (it was only a minute before, so not bad). everything appears to be quicker. so far the hiface issue has not occurred, although it is still too soon to get over excited.

Glad to hear you made it. Next step would be making sure you also have the latest drivers for every device but don't get these from Asus site, they have very stable releases but rarely the newest available. I'll give you a good link when I get home.

Hi Javier, Reading this thread has reminded me that I have not updated my BIOS since I put the PC together. IIRC my ASUS mobo is the same as yours but I currently cannot lay my hands on the Operators Manual to positively identify it so, if you are able to confirm this (it was put together under your guidance ), can you let me know what mobo I have (so that I can update my BIOS) and also provide me with the driver update link please? Again, sorry for the numptie question and TIA. Cheers, Dave.

Hi Oldson, I cannot find a Recovery DVD but I have found the original ASUS installation DVD for my mobo (and the User Guide) so I now KNOW that my mobo is a P8H67-V so I'll find the correct BIOS update and see what's involved. Thanks for your input, Dave.

Dave i think that is the disk i mean. following my bios update today, via usb flash, my pc would not boot up at all. i put in the disk , as per the manual, and then the bios updated automatically to the latest version. (not the version on the disk, which confused the hell out of me). hope yours goes well. cheers

First bit went OK and I've now got the latest BIOS file unpacked onto a USB stick. I won't be able to do the update for a while 'cos our CH boiler decided to throw the towel in on Friday night and the BG engineer can't get his hands on the necessary replacement parts until Tuesday morning so we'll be without hot water or heating until then. Consequently we're both gathered in the one electrically heated room, making PC work a bit inconvenient as it doubles as the main TV viewing room. It will also give Javier the opportunity to contribute if he can help . Dave.

well in my humble opinion i think the Async1 has the beating of the hiface2 and its half the price!

sold the hiface2 now, but i am convinced the problems i had were rectified by using an external psu and usb injector cable
