Thanks. If the bass is just shelved up but then that should be fine. I only asked because your graphs stop at 20 Hz, and I wanted to make sure you weren't EQing them flat down to DC resulting in infinite excursion, or something crazy like that.
So there's no EQ unit now, just an amp? How much does it cost with the HD650 board?

At this moment there is only the portable amp ( Kameleon) OR the ' filter PCB' which does the same thing but is an inline filter that needs an external power supply. For USA residents Jeremy can whip them up. The bottom part is just shelved (max +7dB at the lowest freq) and drops off below a few HZ again because of the way it is constructed.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!
Does anyone here have experience of the HD 650 with very high-end amps and DAC's? I'm just wondering how much scope there is for further improvement. As many will know I'm currently road-testing the Project Ember and have experienced a considerable jump in quality (and quantity) over my previous benchmark, the O2. Thanks for any & all input.
Goggs.

There isn't very much difference between high-end amps on the HD650 and the Ember. Perhaps all tube amps will be slightly mellower sounding, perhaps less controled in the bass as well when compared to Ember on low-R out. It will be close to Ember on high R out. Subtle at most.
Of course 'corrected' to flat is totally another experience.

I need to buy me some new HD650 pads so I can design an accurate filter for newer models as well. As it is now it is calculated for my (older) HD650 and used the differences found by this guy who measured both to calculate the 'new pad' HD650.
The bloody pads are E 45.- !
It would get my Thomann order over E 100.- though. Unfortunately Thomann doesn't have the (needed) SRH940 pads in stock. May take a month before they have new ones.

If you want to get it over E 100 Frans, I'll buy the two Beyer bands and a pair of Senn pads.
I have to say, the new ones are worth it for the sound clean up. No rush for me either.

With one pair of HD650 pads, 2 pairs of SRH940 pads, 5 beyer bands (in total) I already am above E 100.-
Like to measure the newer HD650 pads as well and compare to my old pads as well as design an accurate filter module. One day I will pass the Kameleon (the home edition, mains fed and line-in with volume control) around. Need to figure out what 'modules' have to go with it. DT1350, T50RP, HD650, bass boost and flat perhaps.

My dt1350 will be going I think. Much happier with K551.
Did you ever do a Grado module?
The Kameleon being portable, or semi-Portable makes it a slightly 'odd' amp for me in that I'd want a flat one at home rather than mobile. So I can use Dt990 or Senn 650 especially with it rather than go mobile.
Of course, you can use it at home, but I was thinking more about power and batteries dropping at home when you could just plug it in and get full dynamic range at all times.

Some headphones cannot be corrected by Kameleon filters. Those with 2 or more with very sharp peaks cannot be corrected. Only those that just need a nudge, Grado doesn't qualify and possibly the lack of sublows and top-end cannot be compensated as well as I like. There are limits to this (very simple) circuit.

Oh, ok. That's a shame. They are fast and the SR225i is quite entertaining except for the lovely great peak in the treble. You're right though. They don't go down too far. Too much nudging isn't a great idea in any case really though, I guess. It's your 'raving' about the HD650 that gets me going!!! You start me off every time. I use the HD650 a lot with the Polaris and Ember. Great headphone, even as they are but you've got more bass and an extended treble!!!! Damn.....

Of course 'corrected' to flat is totally another experience. One that I can't wait to experience with your Kind help Frans. I will let you know when the K551's arrive safely. Thanks again

I just ordered with Thomann. SRH1840 pads, 940 pads, HD650 pads and 5x Beyer headband. When the HD650 pads are in I will measure the differences and make a 'fitting' correction module for these pads. Then I will prep the 'home edition' of the Kameleon + some filters and send it to you. Perhaps it could tour amongst those that are curious about it.

I'd love to hear the Kameleon and what it does for the Hd650 and the t40 and 50. Even the K550. I need too many filters, that's the problem!!!!!

This might be a stupid question. Why would you want the sound to be flat?
