I use many types of Ipods and tbh, they work really well. Better from the line out into an amp which makes them a nice player to use. The worst part is that the newer one don't have that 31 pin dock connector and have this tiny plug instead.
Some say it gives audio out and some say that it doesn't!! I haven't tried it yet with my new Nano.
One major grip with all of these things is the way that Itunes gets a grip of your computer and your music files. I really hate how this software works and also slows your machine right down.
Even worse when you encounter a problem. A reinstallation of Itunes means that you have to reinstall all your music to the software as well as empty the Ipod and re-sync it. Not a big deal when it has a low memory, but refilling a Classic that has gone pear shaped is a real drag.
My newer Classic developed some kind of problem with Itunes which reported a problem which meant that it could no longer sync with it. In the process, it wiped the Classic!!
So time spent looking on the internet for a fix revealed nothing of significance which meant a reinstallation. So Itunes came off and was put back. I didn't know that it left traces of your old files so the new one picks up from where the last installation left off!!! So the Classic was still dead.
So, take it off again and reinstall, but before reinstalling, deleting the files left behind in order to start from anew.
Itunes now works, so I now have to install all of the music on another hard drive onto Itunes which takes bloody hours followed by choosing the files that I want to sync with the Classic which also takes hours.
So far, this process has taken two days. I am so sick of Itunes. Why on earth Apple won't allow the option of drag and drop is beyond me. Maybe it's too simple.
My plan of action is going to be to load up all of my Ipods until they are all full. Dump Itunes and never sync again. Then I'm going to move over to drag and drop machines like the Fiio x3.
My Sansas work perfectly and are way faster than the Ipods to load up with Itunes. It's a real piece of crap. I also let Apple know what I think but they haven't responded.
That software can end up totally locking up your computer for a weekend while it tries to sort out your music and even then, it doesn't always get the files into the order you want, or even give you a choice of just moving them around.
Slowly, now that the dock connection has gone from new Ipods, I no longer see them as anything much better than anything else and in fact, Itunes makes them worse.
So, I guess the next one is going to be an X3.
I wish Rockbox would get a version together for The Classic 6 and 7 Gen!!!
