Well, the scan didn't affect my ears which is the main thing, thanks!! The dye wasn't nice though. I'm thankful it was just an injection in the arm rather than a charge of the light brigade the other way..... I have to play up a bit to get that much ......

You know, I still can't find any reliable source for decent comparisons between the 32 ohm and 250. Sensitivity is the same on both, except, I'm assuming that the 32 ohm one is going to require more current which suggests that it still needs an amp.
No one got a 32 ohm version? I'm really curious about whether it actually works ok straight from DAP's or whether it still needs to be amped.

The answer is right there in my headphone power tableThe efficiency of the 32 Ohm version is actually slightly lower than the 80 and 250 Ohm models. But with just 0.7V it can reach 105dB. It only draws 20mA which even a C'Moy can easily supply. 4V will yield 120dB SPL ! you will need an amp that can deliver 125mA. A C'Moy won't be able to do that.

Thanks Frans. Not seen that before. It's one helluva table!!!
So it looks like the 32 ohm is driveable..... Just. I've read in a few places that it's not really far off the 80 ohm in terms of loudness at the same volume.

I'm actually using mine now!! They're a good listen. Big, deep bass and sparkle in the treble. Kind of like a th900 in a way. They're a good price too.

gonna get a filter for mine, then a 990 + filter.
i reckon i'm done on the dac/amp side of things (unless anything packs up).
cheap(ish) phones and filters/mods is what i am concentrating on now.
after the beyers i am thinking of trying the Shure brand. they dont get much of a mention on here, but i'd like to try the 1540 and 1840 (used of course to keep cost down)

I've fancied a listen to the 1540 for some time.

One listed at present just to give an idea of pricing (although prices do fluctuate): www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B0073A4FM4/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

i am trying to focus on the "cheaper" headphones like this, the 990 and the shures.
though i did make the mistake of reading a couple of reviews of the focal elear, wished i had not, as i now fancy them too! my will power has the breaking strain of a cocktail stick, unfortunately!

Don't worry about the Elear. I heard it (and may even be measuring it in the coming months) and I think it is overhyped. Very bassy, lacks clarity and has some stingy-ness to the treble. Certainly not a contender to the likes of HD650 (on Kameleon) This combo is better sounding and cheaper than the Elear.
The Utopia is much better and about on par with HD800 on Kameleon. Still the HD800 with Kameleon is a lot cheaper (and better).
