Does anybody know how to put an android operating system on a touchscreen laptop.
I have tried a couple of times and not quite succeeded, using virtualbox and Android x86-4.4 RC1.iso but just cant seem to get it to work.
If anybody knows of a simple way to do this I would be most grateful.
I want to try and put it on so that i can control my Stream magic 6 from it and possibly stream music from the HDD.
Cheers guys
Chris

My old faithful Acer Aspire One runs on XP, and since Microsoft stopped supporting it on 8th April, it has slowly become more and more unusable. It is now painfully slow to boot, very slow to open folders, load browsers or start programs. It frequently crashes and has blue-screen episodes and will regularly switch off and then immediately restart, losing everything you have just done! (I've scanned it with Bitdefender, Avast and AVG, and they all say clean.) Chris's post about installing an Android OS on his PC made me think maybe its time I did the same thing on mine. I've been reading up about lightweight Linux systems and think I will try installing Linux Mint when I'm on my next day off cycle. I'll let you know how I get on . . . . or don't

I have had Linux Mint, Ubuntu and Windows XP all installed (using Grub) as triple boot on Acer Aspire one for many years now and Mint works well. XP indeed has slowed down over time. Ubuntu ran into problems when upgrading over wireless (should be done wired !) Linux Mint still works.

I'll let you know how I get on . . . . or don't Jeff, try cleaning your computer with this free tool first: www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standardIf that doesn't speed it up a bit PM me and I'll DB you another great program that will sort out many problems on your PC. www.auslogics.com/en/Antivirus programs will only detect if you have a virus and will not sort out bad or missing registry links or sort out fragmented hard drives. My really old Sony Viao laptop runs XP brilliantly and it is fast and I keep it in order with CCleaner, Auslogis and Avast. Hope this helps Chris

Hi Chris, thanks for that. I've used Piriform regularly for a couple of years and really rate it, but I think maybe I've been using the 'clean the registry' section too often and not backing up the files first. I've read somewhere that that can cause problems. Maybe Frans or Javier would like to comment on that? I d/l the Auslogics which highlighted major registry problems, but required you get the paid version to fix them. When I knew that I had registry probs, I Googled free registry repair tools and found a good one (can't remember ATM as I'm at work) which repaired them all. My pc is now running much quicker, almost back to it's old self, so I'll think twice about installing Mint. In fact I'll maybe install it as a dual-boot to try it out. Thanks very much for the info, that helped me out no end! How are you getting on with an Android system for your pc??

I use CCleaner just before i switch my computer off and never have any problems, i also use the the Auslogics de-fragmenter once a week to keep thinks running quickly. you can try pirifoms Defraggler to do the same job for free. www.piriform.com/defraggler/downloadI have give up for the moment with android on my laptop - I have had limited success but nothing good enough, I strongly believe windows 8 is the main culprit for this and i may take it off and put windows 7 on it?
