Syd, how do you find the he6 without a filter. I can't decide between th900 or he6 tbh. Hi Ian I don't have a bypass switch on my original Frans-designed 'big' filter that would give a better a/b but trying it unplugged and then added in I'm clear that what it does is take a touch of 'screechiness' out of the top end. You may remember when I had a loan of Mick's HE-6 and filter that I routinely 'switched on' the filter and thought it strange that a Frans filter was spoiling the sound a little, so switched it out again. Then I reread Mick's instructions and found that I had been overlooking the fact that up was on whereas I was assuming down was on!. Anyway, I just did a quick comparison with the Kameleon with a 'gain' filter in ie not changing the HE6 character, then with the HE6 filter plugged in and definitely the top end is the bit that is improved. though The HE6 isn't a 'warm' 'phone though and is very revealing. After some years reading your reviews I'm fairly sure they wouldn't be your best choice between the two, though Mick and Frans might be able to confirm that better than me. That said, with an adequate amp they are fantastic but then tend to beg for very high volumes to show off. I think the Fostex would win you over by a fair margin from what Mick has described. And they're beautiful, HE6 is NOT<G>. I could see me weakening to the Fostex at some point but the HE6 wouldn't be departing. I suspect with Frans' new filter on the HD650 that might be some idea of the Fostex. I'm running that combo now too as you know and it's great. If funds were limited it wouldn't bother me to have only that combination as my sole setup. The Senns setup has the advantage that the Kameleon is capable of driving the Senns way beyond what anyone who values their hearing would listen at. But the volume you desire is always available, if you're trying to hear a low output level recording etc. At present the HE6 on my Kameleon is often set at near the top of the volume slider and some recordings have a clear feel of needing just a bit more oomph. As Frans made clear at the time the filter I'm using in the Kameleon is actually for the HE-500 which is very easily driven whereas the HE-6 has loads of sites discussions what amps can drive it. At present I find that a modded X-Can V3 with it's own (modified) DAC and a modified V3 PSU with new linear internals is excellent. Just can't be carried room-to-room or further afield like the Kameleon. It's a nice dilemma you have! Syd

The amplifier is always the same. Only the filter differs and determines the FR and gain. I will try to work on it in the next few days (along with some other filters I need to calculate) I have very little time this week though. I don't know how you have any time any week Frans! No rush, just didn't want to have to unsolder bits unnecessarily. Syd

Thanks Syd and Mick. I have been looking for a stockist willing to open a box up!!
I have been looking around for some time at options for a higher level of headphone to coincide with retirement and all that. From graphs I've been looking at and reading through reviews etc, I felt much like Syd is describing, that maybe the top end wouldn't suit my tastes. Having said that, a filter would calm it down.
Both have been in my sights for a while, along with some others and the he560 as well which I believe is easier to drive.
Getting a lot sorted out at the moment as well. Roof repairs, bathroom, and on top of that a new car. It's all go here!!!
Of course the other option is the one I loved and heard which is the filtered hd650. That really is very good as well and could well be the answer when they start to appear.

Did someone say something about a new car? Now cars I know about. And car sound systems? I know about those too. Just ask the neighbours, they're 3 miles away but I'm sure they'll give you an opinion

I updated the Kameleon article.
Included some additional info and added some headphone correction filter modules.

Hi Frans, the instructions for the DT990 Pro says 'Mount in parallel to R3: 2.7 kΩ + 10 nF in series (use 1206 size SMD components)'.
This is just the series combination of 2k7 + 10nF connected across the R3 terminals? So one end of the resistor at one end and one end of the capacitor at the other?

I updated the Kameleon article. Included some additional info and added some headphone correction filter modules. I have built the new HE-6 filter module that Frans promised recently and to my ears it makes as big a difference to the 6 compared to the HE-500 filter used for the 6 until now as the new HD650 Senn filter has made compared to the earlier version. I have tried many tracks of various recording types and this little amp can handle them all with increased detail and overall musicality as good as any amp I have used with the 6. It has added about 10-15% more volume compared to the 500 filter and I can't listen at more than 90% (even then only briefly) whereas with the 500 filter I often needed 100% for certain recordings. Using the superb DAC section of the ifi micro DSD from my Logitech Touch just provides the icing on the cake. I love buying new gear, as we all do no doubt, but really this setup does everything I could wish for, for all of my various headphones. I'd love to see the Kameleon being adopted by a wider number of people. Syd

It's the availability Syd. I'm sure it would be adopted widely; especially once people get to hear what it does for something like the Senn hd650.

I think the only 'desktop' version will be the module from Garage1217, designed to go in front of the Ember/Polaris/Horuzon etc and it has yet been released.

Eventually Jeremy is going to make a device that takes Kameleon modules. May take half a year or more to do so.
I need to get back to the desktop Kameleon and start drawing the PCB. Need to decide on a few practical things like enclosure etc. The top lid must be easy to remove to change out filters.
Gonna take me a while as drawing is doen at my work in the evening hours now and then.

This summer I met quite a few of these lovely chaps (that is my arm in the pic): Frans, do you think we could sign one of them to promote your filter kit?
