Hello, I was planning to update and reset my foobar2000 to check if there's any sound improvement following the foobar guide posted in diyah.wordpress site section. Lurking around in the forum I noticed a post of psyhead (http://diyah.boards.net/post/13884/thread) where he advice to try Bug Head player with Infinity Blade HQ and I started reading a bit here and here. I'd like to have some feedback and thoughs about it from Javier and Frans to understand if it can take the place of foobar2000. Here some links: oryaaaaa.world.coocan.jp/bughead/index.html jplay.eu/forum/index.php?/topic/1553-infinity-blade-hq-bug-head-emperor-worth-trying/ Also, what does Jplay when used with Jriver and foobar? Sorry for my ignorance but there are too many things to learn!

Any one for Jap->Eng manual transalation? I tried to use to use a couple of times but I found the interface absolutely awful. I'm might be wrong but to me it looks a bit like JPlay which claims superior SQ not by digital processing, which at least has measurable differences, but by "magic" coding and some other (IMO) "suspect" stuff. This is the kind of player liked by those who claim SATA cables can make a difference to SQ. I admit I haven't lokked into in deeply and may have missed something important though, I'm open to being corrected/educated. For a free player I prefer Foobar in each and every way, if commercial software is an option I'd go for HQPlayer.

I'd recommend using ASIO or WASAPI (explained in detail in part 1 of the guide) and output bit perfect to the card (the STX is excellent, I own one) or, if you want to, you can also install the SOX resampler and compare its upsampling to the sound card's own. That is about it. If you get stuck or are not proficient with computers send me a PM and I'll try to help.

I haven't tried the player ( I use Winamp which ticks all my boxes) and cannot try it as I am still running XP. To me all (decent) players sound exactly the same. If it indeed sounds very different from others I would be worried.
I am DAC and 'digital' deaf (fortunately). I simply can't hear most of what's talked about on the interwebs.

Either way it makes for more quality time listening to the music rather than the equipment. I'm long past the FOTM enthusiasm and the GAS affliction (GAS = Gear Acquisition Syndrome).

I made some of the changes in Javier's article. Installed the resampler, as my laptop has no separate soundcard. Seems to have been some improvement. Set it to 48kHz. Thanks again Javier. I'm over my FOTM, but still have a little GAS now and then. Coleslaw really does a number on me.

For playing FLAC, I generally just use musicbee. Has been great for me, but not a big fan of the ripper built in.

Javier, You are invited to come at my home and you could try Bug Head Emperor vs any other player you like. HQ Player is a good player (to me, second best). Bug Head is a very different thing. I don't know if it is bit perfect or not. I only know what sound likes me. I'd like to see you at my home

I do indeed know him, he was in the team when we were thinking designing a DAC based on the same chip the iFi micro uses.

Oh wow!!! Did it not happen?
It was just that he was inviting you around Javier and I was getting nervous!!!
You know, the Ifi has an awful lot going for it with the different kimds of files that it accepts, the massive range of power options and even the plugs for coax, etc. A cheaper alternative would have been great.
