Classes! I did a watercolour painting course... because I wanted to learn how to handle watercolur. She (the tutor) did not like the way I handled perspective. I've plenty to learn about painting but, actually, my handling of perspective is pretty good; better than hers in fact. But other than that it was a useful course.
Then there was the time I trained as an adult education tutor because there was a vacancy for teaching on an evening class in 'Learn to use your SLR'. Pre-digital that was. I gained my Stage One Regional Certificate in Adult Education (wow) and prepared for the course. Wrote the sessions, planned the excercises and so on. No one signed up for it. No one turned up. Just me in an empty classroom.

I would've turned up Derek I think education is very strange these days. A few years ago I'd finally had enough of being treated like an idiot because I had no formal qualifications & signed up for an HNC in Computing. Although at 42 I was by far the oldest in the class it didn't take me long to realise I was going to breeze through it. They didn't actually teach us about computing so much as they taught us how to pass the test. Two young lads actually managed to fail it but to be honest they should never have been there in the first place. I think it was either that or the dole for them. I have some sympathy for them actually. But now, ask me a question on something I got taught & I'd struggle to answer it. It would be pointless but I at least have a piece of paper that says I'm not thick as mince. Another thing was that although it was ostensibly a full-time course it was actually part-time. It was fun though. I was also amazed that we were allowed to use mp3 players pretty much whenever we wanted to. That was handy for me. Did you know the Cowon D2 has a built-in Hex calculator?

Wow! Those are spectacular images. Nice find. The Daily Mail is good for something, who knew? Here's a link for anyone who doesn't want to fund Rothermere.. Daily Mail

I hope some day you can bring your camera to Alaska. Would love to see what you could do there Gordon.

I hope some day you can bring your camera to Alaska. Would love to see what you could do there Gordon. Alaska would be great but out of my reach I'm afraid. I'm not sure how successful I'd be photographing the place though. I went out today with the specific intention of getting two shots. That's all I wanted and I failed dismally. 23 shots and not one of 'em's a keeper.

My best mate here is a part time sports photographer. The rest of the time he travels around the Sierra Nevada mountains. He has days like that all the time. Showed me 25 shots and only 2 where usable. And those had to be Photoshoped some. His answer was to order a new Canon. I won't say the price. It had zeros.

They all have zero's mate, lol. It's the iPhone generation I blame. The phone's good enough. It's why the bottom's fallen out of the SLR market.
