Apple get a lot of flack and I have to admit, watching their publicity videos on YouTube concerning anything new is slightly painful in its (sorry) Americanisms and gloating. Their releases always seem so overstated and big time like they've invented something out of this world. The audience kind make me feel ill too. They all seem so creepy. Like a covert club of neeks.
I have used streaming services in the form of Spotify and the biggets weakness for me has been missing artists. Quality is ok at 320 and certainly good enough for bluetooth sending from an upstairs bedroom to cover the whole of the house into bluetooth speakers or headphones. It works fine.
Apple's new service has more mainstream artists and testing it yesterday showed just how vast their collection of music is. That is imo, one advantage that it has over Spotify. It feels way more mainstream with commonly known artists available.
Quality is slightly lower than Spotify but tbh, I can't tell the difference between the two streams of the same album. I tried comparing, but no biggie. Radio stations are quite nice. Good search facility. Personal tecommendations really hit the spot. They seem to have found my preferences and it's improving with more plays as well.
I think it's a nice service and comes free for 3 months as a trial. After that, charges hit, which is when its success or failire will show. My guess is that it will do well since some may well see this as a way of avoiding 'buying' music and just stream from a vast library instead.
I quite like it, although I do know that there are some difficulties with royalty payments to artists. My guess is that more people will access music that they wouldn't necessarily buy and so perhaps create a wider audience for many bands. I wish King Crimson would stop pratting around over downloads. They appear nowhere because of Robert Fripp's attitude. He comsiders his music so previous that he won't have it compressed as downloads but has it compressed instead onto a cd. He needs to get over it. Great pity about King Crimson.
Some gteat material in the library and that's where I think Apple will do well. Plus radio, videos, artists videos, recomendations. The service os well worth a try if you have an Apple device already and get IOS 8.4. The new IOS should have come down to most devices by today I'd imagine.
