A few unexpected bills (grrr) and some needed pc upgrades mean I need to do a bit of a reluctant cull on my headphone collection. Having decided what headphones are staying has also helped to free up a couple of amps too.
Thought I'd do a quick interest check here before listing on HF towards the end of the week. Haven't decided on prices yet but if there is anything that's potentially of interest please let me know and I'll price them up, take pics and provide info on anything you'd like to know more about etc.
Briefly:
AKG K7XX - re-listed in new thread ---
DT150 - re-listed in new thread ---
Project Ember v1 w/ Supercharger - bought this a couple of months ago from a fellow head-fier who was the 1st owner (believe he'd owned it for 3-4 months). Very good condition and comes with power brick & UK power cord. Clear / acrylic top & bottom plates. Stock tube is included and works fine but sits a bit squint in the socket, which I'm told it's done from new. Not an issue with the amp's tube socket as all the other tubes I've tried sit perfectly upright. Will also throw in a very nice Amperex Bugle Boy JDJ8 tube which I've been using with the Ember.
---
Schiit Lyr (NB. potential issue with muting relay) **Sold to Joe**
Overall very good condition. UK model. Comes boxed w/ power cord & instruction manual.
Good amp with bags of power for almost any high impendance or ortho you throw at it. Not so good with low impedance / high sensitivity 'phones though as there's just too much of a noise floor and too much power under the hood (you'd want a Lyr 2 for them).
Now onto the issue:
From an early age I was taught to always plug in headphones after turning on an amp and to turn the volume down and then remove them before powering off. The O2 was a bit of an unfussy bugger so I grew a bit lax in my habits and quite often left my headphones in all the time.
Now I believe my Lyr has a muting relay fitted as there is a quiet but audible click a few seconds after powering on. However, I did once make the mistake of leaving a pair of headphones plugged in, & still on my head, when powering off a couple of years back and got a fairly loud pzzzzt noise as a result (enough to want to yank the 'phones off). Admittedly the headphones I was using were lower impedance than the minimum quoted for the Lyr so that may have played a part, but still wouldn't have expected quite so much noise. Couldn't recreate it with a scrub pair of 'phones I had around and for the last couple of years I've not been daft enough to make the same mistake.....to help remind me I stick a tube glove over the rear on/off switch which prevents any mental lapses (which I can include). Otherwise I've had zero issues with it during use.
As I say it's a potential issue though and I'll be reflecting this in the asking (likely be asking £50 + postage - it's quite heavy).
Should add that I've owned the Lyr from new & it's not been modded in any way or opened up. Stock tubes will be included.
In terms of postage my preference would be to ship within the UK to keep costs down. The Lyr in particular would be very expensive to ship further afield.

Mark, I'd be interested in the AKG so price + pics for those please :-) Ta, Joe Edit: and the Lyr, in fact... Let me know :-) Hi Joe, I took some pics of the K7XX earlier this morning so will upload them later for you. Didn't see your edit re. the Lyr until afterwards but will try and get some done later today time permitting. Realistically I Would need to post both separately due to the size & weight of the Lyr. Actually seems far more cost effective that way too due to the weight / size brackets etc. In the meantime prices as follows: AKG K7XXBest I can do for the K7XX is £135 incl. RM Special Delivery. If you wanted the extra cable I can include that for an extra £5 (£140 all in). It's this one although you'll see when the pics are up that the mini XLR end differs slightly from Amazon's stock pic (mine is solid metal rather than plastic + metal): www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-TA3F-VDPPMIBK0150-NYS231BG_P2-Pioneer-Replacement-Headphone/dp/B00MVCNAHK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1438165372&sr=8-1&keywords=akg+k701+cableIt's fitted with a 3.5mm jack, but I'll also include a good quality Sennheiser 1/4" adapter so it'll play nicely with the O2...or Lyr. Schiit LyrI'd be looking for £50 plus postage on the Lyr. I'd probably look at a service like Parcel2go to help keep costs down. Although a bit slower (3-4 working days) I'd hope I might be able to get it sent sub £10. I'll see if they offer a quicker service too and, if so, how much extra that costs. As it's you Joe I'll also throw in a few extra bits & bobs to get you started Some extra tubes & I'll leave the excellent Tubemonger socket savers I was using fitted in the Lyr (far better than the cheap Chinese ones with tinfoil pins). From experience I can tell you that they are essential if you plan on tube rolling!

I withdrew the Ember yesterday (just couldn't do it) so was thinking of keeping either the DT150 or K7XX to use with it. Spent hours last night listening to both along with the Ember in the hope all would become clear and I would then remove one from sale. The outcome? Love them both and was left none the wiser so thought Joe might have taken the decision for me. Then I wake up and see your post... Would you mind if I take the DT150 off the table for the time being at least Gordon, 'til I know Joe's thoughts on the K7XX? If he passes then I'd be happy to sell the DT150 & keep the K7XX. If they are available I'd do them for £50 and you'd be welcome to audition them before committing (& maybe a chance for you to hear the Pandora and me the HD650 + Ember?). Whether my pair or another I really do think the Beyer will be right up your street.

I took quite a few and file sizes might be a big too big to attach to an e-mail, so probably best if I upload them to my Photobucket account & then give you a link. Will let you know about shipping once I've had a chance to box up the Lyr (still have the original box so should be well protected).

Hi again Joe, Not sure why I said Parcel2Go as I meant Collect+, as they have a drop-off point locally. Just to give you a ballpark (assuming between 2-5kg which I suspect it will be) costs are as follows on the Lyr: Economy (roughly 3-5 working days) £6.19 Standard (roughly 2 working days) £7.19 Both services include £50 compensation as standard. If a signature is required on delivery it adds £1. I also noticed they offer the option of having a parcel delivered to a local store where you can collect at your leisure (you have up to 10 days to collect). I suspect it is closer to economy in terms of delivery times but cost is only £5.29 for parcels up to 10kg so certainly a nice cheap option! If you want to check if there's a store close by you can enter your postcode in the box at the top of this page: www.collectplus.co.uk/

Do you have the adapter for your Ember? I'd make sure to bring it if you don't, along with some nice 6SN7's.

Mark, if you want to withdraw the K7XX its fine! I've got things for the house which should probably take precedence!
I'd still take the Lyr to use with the DT990s - I'd be choosing between the 990s and K7XX's anyway and would move on whatever doesn't 'hit the spot' with me.
Let me know your thoughts :-)

Cheers Gordon. We'll get something lined up for sure! Had to put the adapter on ice for now but would be up for hearing your 6SN7's. I have a couple of spare valves earmarked for you btw. Let me know your thoughts :-) Hi Joe, That's very decent of you to offer! It's entirely up to you mate - I really can't choose between them (both excellent in their own ways) and can happily live with whichever I'm left with. I haven't actually listened to the K7XX with the Lyr (may do tonight as I plan on testing the Lyr again before posting anyway) but would imagine it should pair well with either. The Lyr also tends to be quite smooth in the treble department which might be beneficial with the DT990, whose treble is a bit elevated I think. If you're happy, I'm happy Mark ps. just to add that the extras I mentioned with the Lyr are included whether you buy the amp alone of bundled with the K7XX. And of course I employ a no quibbles refund policy if not entirely happy (although I think you will be).

Pics now up:
Lyr
K7XX
Couple of things to mention. Socket savers installed in Lyr (seen in top down pics), and a couple of shots to show how the tubes sit. Normally you'd only see the silver tops sticking out from the chassis which makes them a nightmare (or less polite words) to remove. The K7XX is a dust magnet so apologies for any specks of dust (wipe them off, more attach) - black plastic & velour pads are bad for that. As can be seen from some pics the shiny black plastic trim on the earcups still has some clear factory wrap on it, so the plastic underneath should be unblemished.

Hi Mark, Excellent stuff - I'm probably going to regret this later on, but for the moment I'm going to say 'no' to the AKG's and yes to the Lyr - if that's OK with you? Having thought about it, I'm probably going to need the money for my log burner installation before winter arrives and may get lynched if my SO realises I've spent it all on headphones instead, especially when "one pair is enough" Hope this works out well with yourself and Gordon. If so, let me know payment details i'll ping it over this evening. Cheers, Joe.

Hi Joe, Yes, that's not a problem at all. Sounds like a very sensible decision under the circumstances....although the Lyr does run quite toasty so perhaps you could use that to heat your home? I'll PM you my details shortly and we can go from there. Best, Mark

That k7XX is frighteningly similar looking to my k712.
If it is the very same, I love the one that I have. Took it with me on holiday and have it on loan. When I get back, I think I'll be buying one. It's a tremendous headphone with deep bass and lacks the shrill top of the Akg k701. Really balanced and on a level IMO with the hd650. Bass is deeper than stock hd650 I think actually a bit more in the treble. Not as much treble as k701 with bigger bass But perhaps a fraction less wide in soundstage. Amongst my top headphones for sure and as good, if not better than the Senn.
It's like a big mellow K612 with such a low bass response.
Very balanced headphone so I'd have a problem selling the k7XX if I were you, Mark.
