my brother is tempted to dabble in his first pc based headphone system. i know he does not want to spend a lot , just in case he does not end up using it enough. i have offered him my redundant panda amp. i am trying to recommend a good cheap asynch usb dac, one that came to mind is the mf v-dac 11. have you guys got any other suggestions, new or used, but around the £100-£150 mark.
thanks

Sub £100 the Epiphany Accoustics E-DAC (ODAC) is a good option.
Another option is the Musical Fidelity V90-DAC. I use one myself and very pleased with it but not sure how it stacks up against the V-DAC II. It sells for around £199 new but should be available for sub £150 used on the auction site.
The E-DAC is usb only whereas the V90-DAC also offers optical & co-ax inputs, which might come in handy if your brother wanted to hook up a games console, DVD player etc.
Edit: Modi 2 also seems quite a well regarded budget option and again comes in around the £100 mark. E-DAC & Modi 2 are usb powered whereas the V90-DAC requires a PSU (supplied).
