I am a great fan of wireless headphones as some know, even though the quality of the received audio is compromised by the way that Bluetooth works, compressing files and then uncompressing at the headphone end. This can cause delays which makes film watching a bit painful, depending on the Bluetooth standard.
The reason I like it is that you are free to move while listening and not confined to the listening chair, attached by a cord.
I've been trying out a Bluetooth headphone for review purposes that isn't that great in that the audio extension at the top end is curtailed and it has a bit too much bass. It's currently being sold by a new company called Ausdom, but the headphone itself isn't of great interest to me because of the way that it sounds. I've let them know and they seemed very interested in my feedback. I'll be trying a better one from them soon in any case, but what I did like was the range. It was terrific.
I left the iPod running and walked out with these headphone to my garden shed. It worked all of the way there and back. That's way more than 10 meters. That really surprised me so I'm looking forward to hearing a better model from them for testing and comparing.
So, I had a look on Amazon and found a little Bluetooth device that both transmits and receives. The codec that it uses isn't the most recent but it works, so that I can send any audio out to a Bluetooth headphone, or even better.....
Use a Bluetooth device, like an iPod and attach it to the HEADPHONE as a receiver. I tried with an AKG K545 and the quality of sound is great. Then I tried the K712. Fantastic. Bluetooth headphone with really, pretty good sound.
So at last, any headphone will work as a Bluetooth headphone and you retain (as far as Bluetooth is limited) the quality of sound. Really worth it if you want to break free, as Freddie used to sing!!
The Ausdom headphone I tried had a brilliant range but sound wasn't for me at all. It's limited to 10kHz, but I'll have another one soon which extends to 20kHz which may well be a lot better. I'll be doing a review on it.
In the meantime, I'm using this brilliant little thing attached to my ordinary headphones .....

That one is a Bluetooth 3.0 transmitter/receiver. Range isn't as good as the Ausdom headphone that I'm testing. Ausdom is way more sensitive.
Even better is this one which is Bluetooth 4.0. I'll be testing this one out tomorrow in order to compare range.
