The answer to both is the HD 800.

Nope, the HD800 isn't fun.
A fun headphone has plenty of bass (nearing overblown) and smooth, yet near splashy trebly. The HD800 doesn't have a slightly elevated bass (rather the opposite) and doesn't have fun treble, piercing would be the word.
Fun: HD662-EVO Accurate: HD600, DT250-250 (a good one), ETHER Not accurate but excellent sounding (with EQ): HD800, HE-6, HE1000

It's quite funny in that 'reality' isn't fun!!!! Mind you, what really represents 'reality' is the big question......... Perhaps it's a headphone that's no fun. I must find something that I don't like ...........

I'm going to have to find an HD662-EVO and make the mods, but they don't seem to be available in the states.
How would the DT990-pro be as a "fun headphone" or compared to the 662?

The DT990 is a fun listen. It lacks subbass which I think is part of the fun and the treble peak may be a bit too much (depending on the year of manufacture)
I find the HD662-EVO (probably a pre-production model I have here) 'better' than the DT990.

The DT990 is a fun headphone for sure.
Until recently I couldn't really figure why you guys were complaining about the DT990 treble being a bit peaky as that didn't correspond with how I was hearing things (using Vali 2 + Amperex tube). Plugged it into the Mojo and Polaris recently though and that brought the treble out a bit more...not too bad but sometimes it does feel like it could become problematic with some tracks.
With the 'right' tube though (or EQ) it should play ball though.
The Denon D2K is another one I think of as a fun headphone. The bass on that thing is quite addictive even if it's rather overblown at times. you get some of that with the TH-X00 albeit with a bit more overall balance.
Fun isn't a word I ever thought I'd hear used in connection with the HD800. It has a reputation of being rather ruthless with poorly recorded material so perhaps only 'fun' if you're a bit of a masochist.

A fun headphone has plenty of bass (nearing overblown) and smooth, yet near splashy trebly. Sounds as though Frans may have explained why I love the K812. These headphones tend to get criticized in the reviews for these characteristics but they work for me.

I have a k712 and would have liked to have heard the k812 before I got this one, but it costs so much more!!! I like the K712 a lot. Way more balanced than the other AKG's.

I'd have to say my Fidelio X2 would fall into the fun category. Great bass - esp. for an open model. Very comfy. Works well with most genres (classical may be a little on the bland side, but is classical really "fun" to begin with)

Seems like this HP is a very good value also.

I would have liked to listen to the K712 but never had the opportunity. I had the K7XX, which many say is similar to the K712, and I liked it quite a bit. Before I had a chance to try the K712, I saw an "open box" K812 at a very, very good price. I thought I couldn't lose too much if I didn't like them so I jumped at the chance. I'm glad I did.
