The two of them make a good matching pair. The dt770 has a bigger bass and deeper than the dt990 which has a rise in the bass higher up and then drops away. They have a lot of similarities though as well.
I use the dt990 and 770 quite a lot. A much brighter alternative to the hd650.

I even use an attenuator with it Simon, from the Polaris. On high gain, the Polaris drives it loud enough at 12 o clock then and for some reason, I slightly prefer it. No idea what it is. Just seems smoother........ It has an adapter fitted onto a mini plug so no problem at all. In fact, I'm starting to think that the headphone and amp need to be matched power wise and it helps make the sound seem more relaxed. So that the volume is around or just over 12 o clock. I haven't a clue why I feel that way and it could be placebo of course, but I don't care!! Certainly, there's not a hint of the noise floor!!!

sorry jkb89 but i will have to pull out of this purchase! it appears my other hobby (fish keeping) is proving to be very demanding on my wallet just now. i need to get a new ballast for my UV steriliser (£110) and a new co2 regulator (£110 also), so this has cleared me out for the time being. again, sorry for wasting your time. kr Simon
