Funny that we rarely consider the case for our daps as important, but many a time, I've been out somewhere and dropped a dap and the case really has saved it from damage.
I used to get really thin ones just to superficially protect my daps from fingerprints and dust but now, I tend to go for something more protective if I can. Proper leather ones make it more bulky, but if the player hits the deck, the case then absorbs most of the impact. Trouble is that the leather ones are also very expensive.
The ones I use are these ones, although this picture is just a pouch which can be useful for mobile phones...
There is now a tiny one out for the Fiio M3 which is actually not bad. It has a plate over the card though, so to change it, you have to raise the player in the case to get at it. At least your card can't pop out I guess. It also has a slot for a spare card. That means you have the capacity for 256gb of music plus the onboard memory. Not bad at all. Protection is very good ........
For my X1 II, I have just got a new case out by the same company. Again, expensive but not too shabby at all. This one takes 4 cards plus one in the player, making a total of 640gb at your fingertips and really good protection. Again, you have to lift the player to get at the card slot, but better that than have the card pop out. They are spring loaded, so the card literally can fly out of the socket!!
Closed, they're not too big and to be honest, for portable use, I would rather have the protection that these kinds of cases offer rather than those silicon ones which look good and keep the player small, but drop it and you have no player!!!
