I hadn't been aware of these until the guy I got the Lyr 2 from recommended them. He used them in the Lyr and a Mjolnir 2 and really rates them. Couldn't see anything but positive impressions so ordered a set which came today.
£99 for a pair which is not cheap. But not exactly expensive either I suppose considering the price some pairs sell for and the additional work, matching and warranty that iFi provide. At least if they sound good anway!
I believe they are modified GE 5670, which is a 6922 variant with slightly different pin wiring. iFi use the same 5670 in their flagship iCan Pro amp and the iDSD Pro too I think.
They're stubbier (similar width but less height) than a regular 6922 and in order make them compatible with amps that use the 6922 iFi have fitted a converter to them. The (non-removable) base make is enclosed in silicone and houses this converter plus some form of power filter that is claimed to reduce noise.
Packaging is typical iFi with a nice professional looking slip cover, a sturdy foam lined inner box with cut outs for the valves. Also in the box is a warranty card and a pair of cloth gloves for handling purposes..but more importantly these also enable owners to live out their museum curator/ magician/ snooker umpire fantasies they may have. You can't put a price on that, eh?
Have stuck up a few pics below.
Only had them in for a couple of hours and listening casually so can't say too much, but they do seem to offer a nice clean and fairly even handed presentation. No hiss or microphonics that I can detect with more sensitive headphones plugged in.
Anyone else tried them?
