Looks like it's here. Probably all we'll be getting for the Summer so I'll be off to Minorca!! Decided to put my tent up and been out here for two days. Palms have started to put out new shoots and I still had some old olives left on my little bushes!! Knowing my luck, gale force winds will arrive and I'll be taking off in the gazebo. Still, it's bolted down with three guys on the crucial corners and bungies onto the fence to hold the windy side. It also has reinforcement struts across the top, inside and milk bottle weights on the bottom of the legs. Still, it's really pleasant at them moment with all my gear down here!!

Oh great. It's hanging around!! I'm still out here now at 830. A load of geese just flew over and I'm about to start on some beers. Love being outdoors.

Even the frozen tundra known as Minnesota is experiencing spring! The snow is mostly gone, which means the ditches, rivers and lakes are full. This also means our road is flooded for probably a month or so, so taking a longer route into town.
Ducks, geese, and swans have returned as the ice has turned back to water. Frogs are croaking and chirping at night, while skunks and raccoons are scurrying around after a long winter's hibernation. This means we'll have to start looking for bears with cubs when we take our walks.
In the house, we have 14 eggs in the incubator, hoping for an Easter hatch. What fun! Some of our laying hens are getting old, so we need young stock to replace them.
I really love this time of year. So much life!

After seeing the bear attack in the film, 'The Revenant', I think I've developed a different type of 'respect' for them!! That was brutal.
Funny thing was while I was out in the garden last night, we had geese flying over us in the dark. I thought once the sun went down, they'd dpsettle but they continued till quite late.

I hear them geese flying over some nights too. There's a small industrial estate along the road from us where I think gulls are nesting. Some nights we hear them kicking up a godawful racket around 1-2AM and from the garden I can see large numbers circling above the factory rooftops and taking turns at dive bomb at something. Makes you wonder when the things sleep. Don't see them so much during the day except at the weekends when things have shut down. Whilst not quite at the point of attack they can get really quite intimidating during nesting season...which makes a walk through the place interesting! Cooler here today so going to wash the car and get some good quality wax onto the paintwork now that the damage to the side has been fixed and resprayed. Tomorrow is looking very nice though

I've been 'mobbed' by a seagull twice now. Once in St Ives in Cornwall where it took my pasty which was a curry one so it nearly choked!!!
Second time when it bashed me on the head in the Scilly Isles to take my ice cream, but I managed to bash it on its head and it went flying. They can be very aggressive.

We only have black bears around here; not nearly as big and aggressive as grizzlies. They're still bears, though. Around here, the wolves tend to be the biggest threat. That pack strength and mentality tend to command a modicum of respect.

We live quite close to Lake of the Woods and go there quite often, so seagulls are a constant source of entertainment! Toss out a scrap of food and watch the fun!
