I was setting up to do some filming yesterday and put a lavalier microphone onto the subject ready to record audio onto a digital recorder when I noticed some awful kinks in the mic wire. Changed it to another one. (Lavalier mic is just a 'pin on' type of mic that's easily hidden under clothes. Fantastic for picking up spoken word on film with a radio pack or direct into a recorder in their pocket. The guy I was filming suggested a fix while I was asking him to talk in order to adjust levels which is so blooming obvious!!! Hot water. Dunk the cable (only the cable) into hot water for a couple of minutes and then run your finger down it to straighten it. The kinks were instantly gone. So I moved on to some headphone cables. Same result. Great fix for those straight cables that get trapped or kinked. Why have I never thought of that?

Nice.
I've done a similar thing to kill the memory in my cables using an electric heating pad.
