Actually, I used it with an O2 this afternoon and thought it sounded different as well. I just put it down to what I was listening to, but with the IPod I went from headphone and then changed to digital so it was a bit easier to spot.
Something just slightly seemed to change that made it sound a bit more solid.
The other thing that I’ve found is the bass quantity changes quite dramatically from recording to recording. Some things sound thin and then change to another album and it’s deep and powerful.
I think for me, setting number two is a good compromise in most instances.

People get hyped and price increase? Doh. Thank god that did not happen with latest Superlux's. Already a bit over pricey.

BTW, I still had Porta Pro 2000 in my drawer, do you want to measure them for the sake of history? They are pretty rare and no info on the internet. I used them with my Sony walkman years ago and was happy with them. Don't use them anymore, they don't fit new equipment and sadely they are too fragile, the headband broke several times, it might broke again once you try them. I suspect during last repair the service replaced the drivers also I have no use for them and you can keep them. AFAIK all the special editions etc. are just regular PortPro but with different colourscheme, wiring or lettering. I suspect the drivers are the same. They do sound quite nice, certainly when you listen to them exclusively. They are easy to 'tune' into and you don't hear its flaws at all. One can only hear the flaws when comparing directly to better headphones. Shipping headphones is expensive... even the smaller ones. Within Europe it is do-able but outside is quite expensive. When you want them measured I can do that but expect them to be the same as Rabbit's PortaPro. Fakes are really hard to find these days. I tried to get one but can only find real ones these days.

Never thought there’d be a day when people are wanting fakes!!! Bit like when I was in Tenerife and there were ‘Genuine Fake Beats’ on sale everywhere and people loved them ....

I bought from aliexpress for 65$(shipping included, latest model with 1.6m cable) and my findings are exactly the same. Both bass levels are viable and will depend entirely on the recording.
Other than that, the comfort is amazing and I can hardly feel that I'm wearing them. Moreover, I didn't expect such solid build quality and used materials from chinese headphones either. I'd love to have velour pads for these though(my ears get sweaty really quickly).

They are not Porta Pro clone, it's more a marketing title with a hint of approaching millenium. They disappeared quickly from market, although being advertised as an "ultimate Koss portable". I guess drivers might be borrowed from Koss 4AA version...? (see portapro.cz/?id=pp2000)Yep, shipping would be inside EU, when I find some time and proper courier. Otherwise they slowly drift "to be archived" (our family euphemism for wastebasket storage).

Takstar also make decent microphones. It only decent for what they’re designed for which is quite limited. They made an excellent shotgun mic for cameras, designed for what’s called point and shoot. Normally, the camera is used in noisy situations so the Takstar faults are much less apparent. They hiss like a banshee (cheaply made) but that doesn’t matter in a noisy environment when you can’t hear it. Their directionality is good through the design of an interference tube where the capsule is so they focus very much forward. So value for money is excellent but there are some real faults buried in them too. I suspect, the headphone goes along the same lines. Great value. (In my case - excellent value I think) However, not that detailed but have a good tone or timbre. After all, if a headphone has a good sound, it’s way easier to accept a less detailed sound for most people. And as Frans has rightly said .... not enough detail? Turn it up and you’ll hear the detail. Not good for you though. Takstar are experts at working within budget constrictions and getting the most out of cheaper components. The Beats copies are truly awful though!!!

How do these Takstars compare to the Superlux HD688?

The HD688 needs mods, the Takstar does not.
The Takstar is more comfortable and will fit better on bigger sized heads.
Soundwise the modified prototype is better sounding but the modified production version is about on par. Both lack 'clarity' but the HD688 is better in the nuances.
Bass is 'adjustable' on the Takstar.

I enjoy the HD688 too much at the moment so i see no point in getting a similar headphone.
Also, browsed through the head-fi thread a bit...that was...something.

I just received both variations of the Takstar pro 82's. Both units are being burned in, as of right now the first, white box version driver is incredible. I have limited experience with $100+ headphones but the imaging and the highs are the best I have heard. The 2nd black box version sounds ok but darker and lifeless compared to the first driver. The first driver sounded very sharp and grainy for the first few hours and then they tightened up, no such problem with the 2nd driver. The pads on the first variation are somewhat thicker than the second variation. I swapped pads on both and it made them both sound worse ( I think). Ps if anyone knows where to get more 1st driver variation, white box, long cable versions please let me know. Thank you

Received both pairs of Pro 82's back from Frans today. Now sporting two tone colour schemes (black/silver & silver/black) and revised internals; one pair now fitted w/ replacement drivers (donor unknown) & the other w/ older version stock drivers & a 'corrective' filter designed by Frans. Only had a an hour or so of listening time with each so looking to sinking in some more hours over the next few days. Both sound pretty good though! No longer have a stock P82 of either revision to hand and it's been far too long since I heard either for me to make any sensible comparisons from memory. The only thing I think I can say with a high degree of confidence is that the little niggles I had with the older revision P82 (could sometimes be a touch bright/edgy/thin sounding for my liking) have been addressed by the filter* * filter is DIY only and is NOT required for the current revision of the P82. The schematic can be found in the excellent in-depth article Frans produced LINK
