Today, we actually had snow coming down and settling!! Daughter's school was closed. Helena went to work as usual because she loves her money!! I decided to make a short video and improvise a little backing to make an 'arty farty' film. With apologies to our Scottish brethren. For us, this is 'real' snow but I do realise to you guys, it's just a 'threat' of snow to come ......

Brrrr. Some nice atmospheric shots, Ian. Good to see your cameraman shot mainly from the better part of valour and glass

Very nice, Ian. That's a very gentle snowfall. We just got done with 6"-10" accumulation and 30-50mph winds. The work commute was horrible for three days before the plows finally got to us. I much prefer your snowstorm.
Nice music, too. Sets a very nice tone.

As far as the music goes… I would've preferred the Dies Irae from Verdi's Requiem - but I'm a sucker for the comically overdramatic

I just made the music up on the spot while I played the film back on top of the piano!!! I’m very lazy these days with composition stuff and always look for a quick way!! Well, would you believe that during that relatively ‘gentle’ snow while I was filming, Lucy’s school was closed!! In the south of the UK, we just aren’t used to seeing a lot of snow. Generally, we get a dusting. Sometimes it falls and settles for a day or two but normally it’s gone within a few days. Actually, there was a method behind my madness. I was making a video to demo a portable lighting unit and was mixing light sources and even putting the light in plastic bag outside while I quickly took a shot. It was very dark and grey. The sky shot of the tree is close to how it looked by eye, the other shots are overexposed a bit on the distance stuff or lit by my little lightbox that I was testing. Unfortunately, I managed to mix both progressive and interlaced footage, so rendering it made a bit of a rough and ready looking film, but since it was just for a demo, I left it. The south of the UK always comes to a standstill at the first sign of snow. Honestly, it does. No wonder the Scots think we’re Nancy boys!!

Got up today and the whole lot has disappeared, so the video is just a memory now!! Overnight, the temperatures went up to 6 or 7 and it rained so the snow has washed away. Maybe, I'll have to do a 'rain' video now!! And recompose the Water Music.
