I’ve been out in Menorca for a month and decided that because it’s so hot, I take minimal audio gear because keeping headphones on your ears is plain uncomfortable with the heat. So I took my Sony NC headphones for the plane and just a Sennheiser px100 and Senn Momentum inears to use here.
The Senn head cushions gave out in the heat because they must have got so hot that they went soft and ripped. Then, my iPad charging wire peeled like an onion gone soft so I taped it all together, followed by my Momentum in ear wire getting a little lump where the wire must have gone soft and it got kind of knotted up inside!!
Headphones aren’t so easy in hot weather so I can understand why people go on about heat build up which really isn’t a great problem in the UK.
And it’s not the hottest of countries to go to either!! The temperatures are put out around 30 degrees but with humidity, it apparently feels like 40. It does seem very hot to me but I’m a bit miffed that my wires seem to fall apart!!!!

Hope you had a great time, welcome back! When I left home for the beach Aug. 1st temps were in the lower 40s (42-43C, ie scorching hot) and when I got to the beach (the very South of Spain, close to the Portuguese border) it was as bad or worse. We had temps of 35C at 2.00 AM the first 4 days which made dificult to sleep without AC or a fan. From the 2nd week onwards it has been a lot better with temps around 32-35 (also highish humidity) which is rather bearable and nights are even cool at 20-22. I can't bear IEMs or ear buds so am I stuck with HPs. In the above scenario pleader earpads are definitely a no no, they make ears so hot you'd need to take them off with a razor after they fuse with the skin. Even velour ones can feel too hot in the summer and become drenched with sweat. The cloth pads of the K501 are so much better in that regard. Never had any problems with cables or gear though.

Hi Javier. Still here. Home on Tuesday.
I don’t know whether they came past you in Spain, but we had a big electrical storm one night. It was amazing. The place I’m staying in looks out to sea. Right on the lower left hand corner of the island and we’re by a well known lighthouse there. The sea was permanently lit up by flashes for a couple of hours and Cala Blanca which isn’t too far away had flooded homes. The news reported hundreds of flashes. The thunder was absolutely gut wrenching. So loud that we could feel it.
Unusual to get that here in the Summer, but it has been hot so we’ve been dodging indoors when we can. I’m not one to sit on a beach for a day and suffer the ensuing burns.
I went diving yesterday and just an hour out on the sea started to give me ‘itches’ on my back, so I went in.
Ciutadella was hilarious. We were shopping and a storm took out all of the power on the island. The shops there are great because they have really good air conditioning and they’re shielded from the sun. When the power goes off, you can’t see anything in them because they’re shielded and the heat builds up in minutes with the AC off.
So we were shopping in dark, hot shops by mobile phone light and the tills weren’t working.
First time this year we went to Mahon or Mao. Beautiful place. The old town is really Spanish looking but the heat got to Helena and she actually laid down on a bench and had a siesta!!! The heat can be very exhausting .....
I don’t understand why my wires disintegrated. Maybe they’re old and were brittle, so the heat softened them up enough to allow them to easily tear when twisted. I was very surprised.

I might as well Simon. Everyone here has the speaker on and they shout manically down into their phones. On the bus ...... everywhere. If not shouting down them, they play loud scratchy music on them, even while sat next to you on the bus.
I just can’t imagine being that desperate to listen to music that I would listen on a phone with no headphone!!

Sorry to hear you and your phones are suffering in the heat. For your public outings, maybe take up the mandolin banjo - they're really loud and piercing - like a banjo, but more annoying. ;-)
