having just shipped out my ifi micro idsd and replaced it with a pro-ject DS2 digital , i am now having some minor issues with usb playback. basically a pop/click every 20 seconds or so, but not both channels.
from my pc my usb first goes to my ifi nano iusb3.0 and then to my dac. now , as i understand it, the micro idsd had the "original" ipurifier built in. so i am now thinking that adding an external ipurifier should rectify my noise issues.
trouble is after reading the spec from ifi's website on ipurifier 1 and 2 plus the spec of the nano iusb3, i cannot work out what the differences are. do i need both?

Hard to say.
When one is plagued by a groundloop there is usually a weird noise/sounds that is audible when nothing is playing or even during playback. Can't say this isn't a buffer or other issue.
I recommend to connect the DAC to another PC or laptop and see if the issue is gone or not.

I have experienced a similar issue with my Yulong DA9 desktop DAC/amp, XMOS based, from an iMac and a MacBook Pro. A low intensity pop/click now and then during playback, sometimes louder on one channel. Some days these noises happen more frequently, some days almost never. From a Windows laptop the clicks are less fequent, but still there. I have not identified the source yet. It happens even with my Intona USB Isolator between the DAC and the PC/laptop, so try different PC / laptop, etc... before buying a USB isolator. A battery powered laptop connected just to the DAC should avoid ground loops.
