Quick heads up….. I just replaced mine for £68.30 on the Amazon Prime sale. No point really in buying pads because good ones would be around 40 to £50 so I just got a new headphone instead.
Just as a reminder ….. I have had them for a number of years now and love them for their open sounding response. They have this inner clarity that most headphones around the same price (their normal price) just don’t have.
To my ears, they seem pretty flat in fr. A rubbery kind of bass, but pleasant and a little kick right up top. They remind me of the Senn Hd800s sound. (Obviously not Senns but kind of similar in response)
At £68.30 these are a bargain, but not there for long.

I haven’t tried pulling these pads off Frans, but the first ones were stuck and I think these ones are on 4 pins. Pity they aren’t available because I like it’s sound a lot but maybe if the X3 isn’t as good, it hasn’t sold as well so Philips are moving on? What a shame.
I don’t think I’ve ever bought a headphone at that daft price that sounded so spacious and open.

For the life of me, I don't understand why Philips made the X2 with such easily replaceable earpads, but don't actually sell the darn things. It's beyond frustrating, cause IME, they are easily the best fitting earpads I've had on my head. They even sound great on other headphones - I have modded my SR125 with a large baffle to use bigger earpads, and the X2 earpads have been the ones that sound the best (kinda have to kludge-fit them, however). The good thing is the earpads do seem to be incredibly durable - even after all the years, mine are still in good condition - unlike the HD58x earpads which flattened out pretty quick I bought a pair of "X2" pads off eBay, but they use much softer foam and seem to bloat the bass
BTW, I have the original X2 - not the X2HR
