after many years i have finally ditched Kaspersky. any recommendations on an alternative? looked at review sites but every brand seems to have really good and really bad customer comments, so dont have a clue what to go for Hi Simon, I have also ditched numerous anti virus programs over the years as they take over your computer and slow everything down to a crawl. I am using windows 10 and I watched a you tube video a few years ago saying microsft defender is good enough to protect you for majority of threats. So about 2-3 years ago I ditched what I had at the time Avira anti virus and just went with microsoft defender. To this date I have had no bother whatsoever and the speed of my computer is back to normal. I don't know about Mac operating systems if thats what your computer is? but I do believe they also have a built in antivirus.
I hope this helps?
Regards Chris

As Crispy says, Windows 11 includea Defender which is quite good if properly configured and the user has some 'common sense', on W10 I'm not so sure Defender is as good but probably good enough. This site makes very through AV tests and benchmarking: www.av-comparatives.org/consumer/

This site makes very through AV tests and benchmarking: www.av-comparatives.org/consumer/Javier will know more about this stuff than I do, but I am pretty sure defender automatically updates to the latest protection so windows 10 should still be as up to date as windows 11?
Common sense like Javier said is probably more important like:
Use a safe browser like Firefox which automatically blocks tracking cookies, has anti phising & malware protection, minimal data collection & encrypted browsing.
Make regular backups:
Make a full back up on an external drive that is not left plugged into your computer every 3 - 6 months or less if your paranoid
Also back up any important files, photographs etc every month or less - again on an external drive not plugged into your computer - if the files are small you could use a flash drive?
By doing this regularly, if the worse comes to the worse you can do a full restore by reformatting your drive wiping any trouble and re-installing your system to how it was before any attack?

i have ditched Kaspersky some months ago now. have not replaced it with anything. still running windows 10 atm and quite happy with it. i did not realise defender needed configuring though, so will look at that now. cheers
