I've been to a Cohen concert yesterday. For those not knowing (or caring) he's on a world tour again. I mainly went do do my wife a favor, I'm not particularly a fan. But boy, I was positively surprised.
The man is not a musical genius, crafted musician or virtuoso. But he's a real performer and he has a wonderful band with impressive background singers. He's 78 years old but he has the energy as if he's in his twenties. He must have liked Brussels, because he performed a total of 29 songs (3 encores included) with only a 20 minute break. By going to his concert, I was kind of forced getting into it. The lyrics all of a sudden made it more interesting. I didn't know/realize before that he's a real poet.
Despite all the melancholy and bitterness in his songs, I went home with a very warm feeling. By all means, recommended.
Cheers, Marc
