One of my favourite bands which seem to operate outside the "limelight" is called Ezio.
They are generally classified as "Folk" but I feel that misplaces them and may be the reason why they are not not more well known.
They are English in origin hailing from Cambridge and are headed up by Ezio Lunedei, backed by Mark 'Booga' Fowell on guitar,Lidia Cascarino on bass,Lee Russell (The Reverend) on percussion and Alex Reeves on drums.
So what of the Music ? It is acoustic guitar based with brilliant and enthusiastic playing by 'Booga' evident on many tracks,Ezio rendering an easy going vocal lead and contributing on guitar as well.I find it difficult to find a pigeonhole for them, probably more jazz orientated than folk, their songs are original and often lyrically amusing.
A good place to start listening to Ezio would be with "Black Boots on Latin Feet",a studio album from 1995,stand out tracks for me are,'30 and confused','Cancel today'and 'Tuesday night' all superbly presented (and recorded) and refreshingly original.
There are also several live albums which accurately refect their live stage presence and empathy with the audience, these too are a great listen.
Their acoustic guitar renderings come across beautifully on headphones, you are there with the band......Ezio are well worth an audition, give 'em a try !
I was interested Ian,to see your earlier comments on 'Tiny Fish',another little known and brilliant band.Their 'Big Red Spark' is a Classic !
Don't agree however with your description of Joe Satriani as a 'stunt' guitarist ! Saw him live here in Liverpool a couple of weeks ago, absolutely brilliant, his skills are unbelievable and thoroughly entertaining even to an old 'wrinkly' like me !
