I had a little surprise with this AKG can this morning.
Plugged into my phone to watch a film on Netflix. Everything fine.
However, from the same output into an amp and the sound seemed to clean up quite a lot. Before the amp, the K450 was its normal fat bassed self. From the amp, it became a touch lighter, as though the main body of sound had moved higher in the frequency range.
It has quite an odd FR to be honest and yet it won a What Hi Fi award last year!!
What also surprised me was how high I cranked the volume with such a sensitive can. It must be drawing quite a lot of current!
I am going to compare the 450 with the 451. I think they have the same drivers tbh but I'll check the sound when I hear it.
What I don't really get with this headphone is the way that it does the opposite to the headphones further up. No way treble focused with a hefty bass.
The amp effect was quite odd though.

I noticed the same thing when I balanced my JVC DX1000. Same amp, same music, same phones, same source, same DAC balanced was the only difference and it was a revelation, everything got cleaned and tightned up, it did not change the signature that much, but when you clean up the bass it sounds quite different, after a while when I got used to the new sound, I started to enjoy the same things I enjoyed earlier on DX1000, but the first couple of hours it was a bit strange..

Yes, it's quite strange, Claus. It's quite a bit better behaved, particularly in the bass.
The 451 is the same IMO. I can't really hear any changes. Just cosmetic. Black instead of blue and a volume control on the lead for iPhones.
It's really weird how the 450/451 is much more bass led than the other AKG's. It's one AKG that really doesn't have the 'house' sound.
