My trusty old Ipod Classic is getting long in the tooth now although it still works perfectly, but before they disappear, I thought about getting a new one to replace it when it finally dies. I see now they are up to V7, but there are some very good deals on the V6 which is what I got. I think my old one is a V4, or even earlier.
Anyway, the V6 arrived and imo it has a slightly better sound. Especially through the dock connecter. My car has an Ipod connection built in and the new Classic near blew me out of the car, both in volume and in sheer bass clout. It is really very good.
Now, I don't know if my old one was getting tired and something is amiss or the new ones have something different inside.
Wonderful machines in that they are 160 Gig and so hi res filles are easily kept on them but the V6 seems even better to me. Amazon have been doing them at a reasonlable price so I got one before the V6 disappears and we can only get the V7 version.
One thing I noticed on the new one is the software allows you to turn off the blasted 'EEC nanny state protect your ears nonsense'. Maybe Apple is waking up to real life?
The Classic is a smart machine imo. It has real clarity via the dock connector and sounds wonderful through earphones without an amp. It stores a bucketload of music. For me in the car, it's a no-brainer with the specialised connection I have into the car system. It sounds superb that way.
