I love prog rock music since it shows rock musicians using many ideas from the orchestral world and being a little bit more creative than just producing a simple pop song!! One band I found recently - Cosmograf have produced a new 'concept album so I wrote about it. Also, an old favourite - YELLO, which I will build up. Plus 'The Enid'. I've followed them for years and their recent album is imo one of their better ones. Plus that old dinasour of a piece - Concerto for Rock Group and Orchestra by Deep Purple. Which version would you buy? Have a read and tell me what YOU think. diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/music/rock-pop/rock-pop-reviews/

Been listening to quite a few prog albums which I will review but to get you started, if you have access to something like Spotify, try these bands: The Flower Kings - Paradox Hotel Sylvan - Posthumous Silence Brother Ape - Shangri-La Really nice albums from them: if you know of them, have you got any favourites from these bands that I'll add to the review?

How about some oldies like King Crimson or Jethro Tull? I'd love to read your review on ITCOK, Islands, Aqualung or Thick as a Brick, specially if you have access to the 40th anniversary editions.

I remember when 'Thick as a Brick' came out and wondered what on earth is was about!! I found that quite odd at the time, but really like it now. Do you know what it's actually about?
I like all of Crimson's stuff a lot. Robert Fripp is a character and I like the work that he does with League of Crafty Guitarists.
It's not widely available though really.
Funnily enough, I was listening to the album with 'Elephant Talk' on it last night!! I really like the section where the vocalist says all the words that mean 'talk' - chitter chatter, broo ha ha, Chit chat, while the band continue playing those repetetive patterns in the background.

Do you know what it's actually about? No idea, what's it about? I just had a look - It's an 'over the top' parody about a boy of 8, writing about growing up. There's also an album called 'Thick as a Brick 2'. It's 40 years on from the last one. I'm going to give it a listen. It opens with the ending chords from the first 'Thick as a Brick' and carries on in the same vein. Not sure it's a good really. It does have musical connections with the first one and he even speaks a little poem in it!!

Was having a look down memory lane with some of my old albums from my teen years. Had forgotten about Golden Earring. I only have their Moontan album. I was wondering if others enjoyed them and what other albums might be enjoyable. I know they have been around for many years, and have a large discography. They are from The Hague. Frans???
Cheers,
Ron

Yes they are... just like Anouk. Anouk is representing the NL this year at the songfestival.
Not a fan of either band. When you've heard one album of Golden Earring you've heard all of them (IMO). They did bring out some good songs though.

I love prog bands, but I'm more into Pain of Salvation and Dream Theater. Next yearn 2nd feb I'm going to see DT with their new drummer. Got to see that in real life cause I've seen the band 8 times allready and I'm curious what will be different now. And my first Pain of Salvation concert was probably the most memorable concert ever.
