I know you'll all snigger and laugh if I tell you I've bought a Skullcandy headphone. I first heard the Aviator a couple of years ago in HMV, and thought it looked great and sounded even better! It is very, very comfortable, with nice thick pads. The capsules (on mine, the Brown/Gold version) are clear, brown, smoked perspex jobs, which let you see the driver and wiring within. It comes with a real leather headband, which is suede on the inside, and reasonably thick, well padded, memory foam earpads. They look a bit bling, but in a classy sort of way. It has a nice, slightly V shaped FR. A bit like a baby DT990, with strong but well-defined bass and clean treble. The vendor I bought it from on the bay was selling a few in different colours for peanuts. They all had what is apparently a common fault. The inline controller had failed so he had bypassed it and fitted a decent quality jack-plug as well. They can be picked up quite cheaply now and I feel its a headphone which is overlooked by the audiophile crowd because of the Skullcandy name. For portable use, you would be getting a great little phone with decent build quality (leather, memory-foam, cloth cable) and great sound quality. Brown/Gold AviatorEdit : Maybe I'm not mad after all - found a review by Tyll, he quite likes them for what they are. (similar to what you're saying Ian)

Good for you Jeff. There is too much 'snobbery' in hi fi and personally, I don't like it. If they suit the purpose, they're absolutely fine. I have no feelings of embarrassment when I try headphones whatsoever.
I will listen to any headphone without prejudice as you may well have gathered from some of the weird things I have tried in the past. Fanny Wang comes to mind here!!! If it does the job that it's intended for then there's nothing wrong with it.
My FW has long gone but I did enjoy them for what they are. Same for these Skull Candy headphones.
One I'm enjoying at the moment is the Denon d600 which has come down to pretty good levels for what you're getting. I love it's richness, but that not to say I like others less because of it.
Just another 'flavour'.

Aviators are the only skullcandy's I liked. I tried a lot of them in a hifi store that had quite a lot of them. Now they swictched to (promote) JBL. Haven't found a single one of those I really liked though.

Aviators are the only skullcandy's I liked. I tried a lot of them in a hifi store that had quite a lot of them. Cheers Frans, I'm glad someone has actually listened to some of their line-up! A couple of years ago I was actually guilty of the audio snobbery Ian mentions, in that, if you had mentioned Skullcandy, I would have immediately gone into audiophile mode! Skullcandy? Style over substance! Boom and Tizz! Headphones for bass-head kids!So I never bothered to actually have a listen to any of their large range. That was till I walked into HMV and saw the brown/gold Aviators. They looked so cool, how could I not pick them up? So i put them on and listened, fully expecting a BOOM BOOM, TIZZ TIZZ sound signature. Well, what do you know?! Nothing like it. A V-shaped FR for sure, but a subtle V-shape! Good amounts of bass, but not so much it overpowers everything else, like the V-Moda Cross-fade LP's I bought faulty, (then repaired, simple wiring fault) and then had to sell on. I really wanted to like the Crossfades, they were fantastically well-built, and came with all sorts of extra goodies, but I just couldn't get past the overwhelming bass. Back to the Aviators. Their treble is clear but not so much it veers into sibilance and 'tsszzz'. Just a really 'fun' signature, ideally suited to portable duties. The take-away from this one is - If you get the chance to listen to them, forget your prejudices and go for it.

I know you'll all snigger and laugh if I tell you I've bought a Skullcandy headphone. My daughter bought a pair of Skullcandy headphones about 5 years ago (Bright Pink) but I often used to borrow them as they sounded pretty good for a cheap pair of headphones.

Hi Matt, Welcome to the forum! How about introducing yourself? Do you have any Skullcandy headphones? Or did you have? What cans have you got? Hope you enjoy the forum, Jeff (The secret Skullcandy fan )
