Frans
This is outside of hifi really, but I've just set up a little Odroid U-3 as a music server. It's excellent, really pleased.
The one issue is that I bought a 'spare' monitor for those times that I want to deal directly with it, rather than SSH from the PC.
If I try to boot the Odroid with the HDMI cable attached, it fails to finish startup.
I see a number of people have the same problem. It seems that some monitors have something not quite standard in their 5V rail which leaks back down to the Odroid.
Some say that in turn the Odroid design could have dealt with that but didn't. If I connect the HDMI lead to the Odroid with no other power connected the 'on' light glows.
It would just be nice to be able to leave it connected.
I have sacrificed an HDMI lead, cut away the outer braid and clipped the red 5V line. Nothing changed though the monitor still works with the Odroid otherwise.
I just wondered if you have encountered this with any of the diverse types of equipment you've worked on?

I have no experience with HDMI.
There seems to be a 'hot plug pin' (pin 19) which may have something to do with it. It could also be that for some reason the I2C bus (pin15, 16) is 'corrupted' on start-up which prevents it from booting properly.
Just guessing though... as said I have no experience with HDMI.
That U3 board seems nice... should play with these things myself someday.

It was a long shot Frans, thanks anyway.
I've had this Odroid sitting around for months. It was intended to replace a little Raspberry Pi to act as a server for my Squeezebox devices.
The Pi was set up by my son but since he flew the nest nothing happened with the Odroid, until a few days ago I decided to have a go with zero knowledge.
There's a guy online provides an operating system and guidance to get his Squeezeplug software running.
It takes about 20 minutes to set up to library sorting stage and is a lot faster than the Pi, nice though it was.
I reckon the Odroid running 24/7 with a 500GB USB SSD will serve all my needs beautifully, I'd encourage anyone who has sqeeze devices to give it a go.
In fact it can run Squeezebox emulation also, or if you have a Pi as well the Pi can act as a player, since Squeeze devices are discontinued.
