Has anyone seen a site offering King Crimson albums as digital downloads? Especially hi res files? I know that Fripp has a thing about it, but as far as I can see, there's no outlet offering them.
I'd like to replace knackered vinyl copies and may as well go with digital files if they're available. I'm after earlier stuff around the period of Lark's Tongue and of course, the Court of the Crimson King.
Can't find them anywhere.

Not long ago they released all their albums in special DVD-A (24/96) + CD packs for their 40th anniversary but AFAIK there are no downloadable versions. These special editions come with original remastered mixes and new mixes. SQ is amazing. 1969 - King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King (2009, 40th Anniversary Series, CD+DVD-A, KCSP1) 1970 - King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon (2010, 40th Anniversary Series, CD+DVD-A, KCSP2) 1970 - King Crimson - Lizard (2009, 40th Anniversary Series, CD+DVD-A, KCSP3) 1971 - King Crimson - Islands (2010, 40th Anniversary Series, CD+DVD-A, KCSP4) 1973 - King Crimson - Larks' Tongues in Aspic (2012, 40th Anniversary Series, CD+DVD-A, KCSP5) 1974 - King Crimson - Red (2009, 40th Anniversary Series, CD+DVD-A, KCSP7) 1974 - King Crimson - Starless And Bible Black (2011, 40th Anniversary Series, CD+DVD-A, KCSP6) 1981 - King Crimson - Discipline (2011, 40th Anniversary Series, CD+DVD-A, KCSP8 They are available, for example, here: www.burningshed.com/store/kingcrimson/collection/362/A DVD-A capable player is needed to play them though they can be ripped to files in the PC with free software.

Maybe I'll have to buy all of them in CD. About £80? Why is Robert so sniffy about it? He turns his nose up at any form of downloading.
No wonder people are resorting to pirate copies.if he made them available, perhaps less would bother to do it!!

Quite true, if they were downloadable and much more reasonably priced (much shorter distribution chain = less people to pay = lower cost) many more would buy instead of pirating.
Do you know Robert or the rest of them in person?

Yes. Met Robert a few times. First time was a long time ago at a Music Festival in Reading.
A very precise man who includes that preciseness in his music, where he uses a great deal of minimalist techniques such as phased patterns. (The same pattern repeated over itself, but slightly out and sometimes moved on a small fraction) the phasing creates a new rhythm that's not actually being played by one person.
It's very funny to watch him perform. Very calm and calculated. Almost emotionless really. Clear cut playing with patterns that overlap and twist with each other and yet, the music remains totally accessible for rock music lovers.

A very precise man who includes that preciseness in his music. Very calm and calculated. Almost emotionless really. Clear cut playing with patterns that overlap and twist with each other and yet, the music remains totally accessible for rock music lovers. In 1993 David Sylvian released an album called "The First Day". It was the first of three collaborations with Robert Fripp. Not being a Prog-lover I only really knew Robert Fripp as the guitarist husband of Toyah Wilcox. I'd never heard any of his stuff. Being a life-long fan of David Sylvian, and knowing that he surrounds himself with only the very best musicians, I realised that Fripp must be a guitarist of the highest order. (Please forgive my ignorance, as I'm not a prog-lover - I'm not even really a prog-liker). Well, obviously, the guitar completely blew me away! This is one of my favourite tracks from The First Day. It's called "Darshan (The Road to Graceland)". Sylvian and Fripp released an E.P. called "Darshan" with three remixed versions of this great tune. This is so rhythmic, and so structured and repetitive, it's really Trance. I mean, if this track was included on a Younger Brother, or Orbit, or Shpongle, or Insomnia, or Faithless album, no-one would bat an eyelid! Here's a really trippy video of Sylvian and Fripp doing Darshan live . You can see what Ian is talking about when he says that Fripp is calm and calculated. When the music is going full-tilt and there is some really complex rhythms being chucked around, he is still sat there, cool as a cucumber. David Sylvian & Robert Fripp - Darshan - live . . .

Robert also invented electronic devices in order to distort/transform his guitar sounds which he used to refer to as Frippertronics. This is Prog stuff!!

Wish he would have it available as a download as well. Would be great to have the early stuff, especially In the Court of the Crimson King. Can't make a deal with HDTRACKS like so many others?
Ian, as far as Prog rock, what are your thoughts about Yes (early stuff, 70's)? Yessongs and Close to the Edge were two of my favorites back then. They were very popular in the San Francisco Bay Area back then and into the 80's. Did you ever meet any of the original band members?

After reading Ian's usual excellent talk-through of The Court I thought I'd buy it and have a listen. I couldn't believe how many different releases there have been and of course just as many opinions of which one is the 'right' one! Haven't parted with cash so far Syd And of course, I'd forgotten about Ian and Javier's opening posts, so CD & DVD A it is. I've only ever ripped one DVD A and the result was excellent. I got the idea from Alex (RG) who I think has done this a number of times with DVD A and off DVD video as well.
