Thank you Rabbit. I just took a quick listen to the K812 Pro, TH900, and HD800. I was just using the speakers at my PC but it gave me a feel for the differences. I'll try it later today with headphones.

It's even better with headphones and gives some idea of relative differences.

It's even better with headphones and gives some idea of relative differences. That's definitely what I'm looking for. I expect I'll have to add the LCD-3 so I can compare to something I already have.

It's even better with headphones and gives some idea of relative differences. That's amazing. Just finished listening to several headphones I have or have heard with my Schiit Fulla dongle USB DAC/amp with my Beyer DT1350's. Gives more than a little flavor. (sorry for the American) they have captured the dark sound of the HD650 vs. the more open HD598. I forgot how much I like them. Thought the HD800 gave a good approximation as well. Great site. Thanks Ian. Should help folks who have a hard time getting to audition the real thing. Darn. Has me thinking I need an HD600. Or the TH900?? No. I like being married.

The TH900 totally dominates my listening now. It is superb.

I once bought the ATH-M40X because it was almost indistinguishable from the 'master' recording. diyah.boards.net/thread/624/audio-technica-ath-m40xHere you can find all the headphones they tested: soundcloud.com/sonic-sense-pro-audio/sets/headphones-testThe 'danger' here is the calibration of the test rig. If it is 'off' the actual recording you hear may sound exactly like the source file but in reality differ from what you hear. The 'neutral' sounding ATH-M40X on sonic sense also showed to be neutral when deriving the frequency plot from the file (easy to do) Turns out, after buying the M40X (which I returned b.t.w.) that the calibration is a bit 'off' The headphone that sounded 'neutral' was in reality bass heavy and treble happy and had a hump in the midrange (at least on my rig) and sounds like that in reality as well. So I don't think the Sonic Sense recordings are accurate in an absolute sense (they will be bassier and have more treble in reality) BUT they do show relative differences and can show typical 'sound' of certain headphones. Overall I think the Sonic Sense idea is brilliant and revolutionary in the sense that no-one else does this. They also do this for speakers, near field monitors and microphones by they way.

Yes. That description fits Frans. It is a relative difference. The DT880 pro 600 I owned for a while didn't have the treble issue (at least my treble issue with them) on Sonic Sense, but the unpleasant sensation still was felt in my ears.
